Best sim-free Phone <£200

Recommended Posts

My Samsung A3 has died, loved its smallness and lightness (most important features), but the screens keep failing and I'm not hard on phones so I'm not going to replace a fourth screen in 3 years.

Got a nice £9 a month 5GB sim only deal that I've just started so can't commit to a new contract, budget is less than £200.

Seeing Moto E4+, Sony Experia L1, Nokia 6, Huawei P10 Lite.

Any suggestions, experience?

Try a Moto G5(S). The normal G5 is £180 (for 3GB RAM) off Amazon whilst the G5S is £199. Couple of reviews here:

ETA: My Mum has a G4 and it seems to be a perfectly functional phone. Obviously won't run as fast as some of the top of the range models but for the price they are cracking phones by all accounts.

You'll get something for similar specs for around 120 if you go onto Gearbest. Head over to the chinese phone thread, and I say that as a person who doubted it 18 months ago!

Like the amazing Elephone S8. AND I just happen to have a brand new one sitting boxed and available for £175 ;)

What, the P10 lite? With its 5" screen and paltry 8 cores?

Shirley, you cannot be serious?

5" screen = good. Smaller the better (remember those days when big was bad) :)

8 cores means nothing to me? Fitsat?

Ah, ok, should have clarified my opening post then.

Smaller, thinner and lighter the better, more storage the better, good camera. That trumps technical stuff I'm not going to notice. Rarely watch anything on phone, never use it for any sort of games.

I'd be right in saying my 2014 model A3 has quad-core, so the Huawei is doubly better? Other than the screens keep exploding, I've had no issues with it, so 8 core would be good for me.

New model out so £100.... Octacore, big 4100mah battery, small at 5"  screen.

Sure it has the Miui9 upgrade available too.

I have the Redmi 4 (which I think is slightly different from the 4X?). It's a brilliant phone.

I just got my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 yesterday. Less than £120 for 5.5 inch 1080P screen. Belter. https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_704640.html

On the smaller version, nothing wrong with the 720P screen.  The linked model doesn't support 800MHz 4G, kind of a big issue since all carriers use that band. O2 only have 800MHz 4G and you will have diminished coverage with other carrier. You need to get the Global Version

So just make sure you check you get the correct version. FDD-LTE B20. TD-LTE doesn't matter, it is only used in China.

That's the one I have as well. Got it about 5 months ago and it's been brilliant. The battery honestly lasts two days even with moderate/heavy use. Saving battery is not even a consideration now. Got it for £105 as well.
