HibeeJibee
Peffermill 3G will also become free, with Leith also moving to Meadowbank... but it's pretty basic facilities-wise, especially for supporters.
LongTimeLurker
Do we now know for certain that this means that Leith Athletic are sharing the main athletics stadium rather than a secondary 3G cage and hence should be able to get licensed?

Main stadium. I suppose technically-speaking Edinburgh College are also part of the musical chairs. They played university league games at Ainslie Park but have moved to Oriam. Some years ago Cove Rangers were a licensed club without any stadium... In a strange polar opposite Saughton Enclosure is now a licensed stadium without any club.
Ginaro
Is Meadowbank going to be ready in 6 weeks time or is there going to be some more musical chairs and Friday night games while they wait?

I've certainly seen claims here and on other websites the current expectation is actually October or November... e.g. check out Edinburgh City's thread in SPFL2 sub-forum. City's home games in League Cup groupstage have - interestingly - been fixed upon non-standard Friday and Wednesday (and they don't clash with Spartans friendlies either). Unlikely to bother Leith as they could just wait-it-out at Peffermill. EDIT: if true perhaps City missing-a-trick... they should use Saughton, and let Scottish League action grace the Stenhouse San Siro ! With the bottom “ex West Lothian” division running with 11 teams would there any benefit in the EOSFL allowing some flexibility and accommodating a late applicant - “club 12” - that would be focussed on using Saughton as their home ground? It would be much better to run the new division with 12 teams rather than 11. Is it too late? The unusual position could be made known in the press.
HibeeJibee
Applications and voting is long done. AGM is tomorrow. (I was partly jesting anyway... just because LTHV's first-team move on doesn't necessarily mean their facility lying empty. They have youth/amateur/womens teams... heavily used for athletics currently... doubt any Tom-Dick-&-Harry could acquire lease from Edinburgh Leisure just like that... etc. etc.). Incidentally why would it be better to run with 12 rather than 11? Same number of matchdays and you'd actually produce an imbalance in home+away games (17+16 / 16+17 not 15+15).

Thanks for the feedback. With an 11 team division you will always have a club without a league fixture during each league round. I appreciate that the EOSFL are pretty good at filling in the void week with a cup game if you are lucky. The possibility of Saughton or Peffermill being available for a new club(s) represents an interesting opportunity for 2022/23.

But if you go with 12 teams you have an extra 3 games (33 total) for the Conference X clubs, when the A & B clubs are playing 28.

LongTimeLurker
If you go further back even Craigroyston started out in Muirhouse and from what I've read were basically a former Edinburgh based Eyemouth (?) squad initially that decided they would rather start an EoS club of their own than be hired guns for Borders village teams.
HibeeJibee
Think that origin is correct. They played out of Craigroyston Community Centre for couple of years (that is where their name came from), moved to City Park in 1976 then St Mark's in 1998. City Park was home to original Edinburgh City... then Hibs B + Ferranti Thistle (came from Fettes Avenue in 1969/went to Meadowbank as Thistle in 1974)... then Spartans + Craigroyston. Manor Thistle played at Jewel & Esk Valley College (incidentally now part of Edinburgh College), then became Edinburgh Athletic around time moved to Muirhouse (but different pitch from CSS who moved there in 1957) in 1996, then were absorbed by Leith in 2008. Tollcross United only ever played at Fernieside? Then were absorbed by Tynecastle in 2005. Postal United played at Saughton, Paties Road, City Park, Fernieside, combined with Edinburgh City's institution, then moved to Meadowbank when Thistle left to become Livingston. Lothian Thistle played at Campbell Park, moved to Saughton around 1998, then merged with Hutchison Vale in 2011. Edinburgh United have only ever played at Paties Road? Insufferable bores... tamthebam
Clubs have always wandered about Edinburgh-see the very early years of Hibs and Hearts. Leith and St Bernards also danced about the city as have Spartans, Strollers and Edinburgh University (Peffermill was originally for use of student ladies athletic clubs). Leith Athletic using Leith Academy's pitches for one of their youth teams is going back to their roots in some way- Leith Athletics 1890s Bank Park home was roughly on the site of the current Leith Academy.
GordonS
This is ripe for a year-by-year YouTube video of clubs popping in and out of existence and zipping across the city, if anyone has the skills for it.
