EOS Grounds for Optimism

Recommended Posts

Positive / good news from Dunbar United today. On twitter, the club announced its membership has been approved by the SFA.  👍

They join last season’s approved teams of Haddington and Tranent. Hopefully in next couple of months, Musselburgh will join these teams & Preston as being East Lothian members of the SFA!

Almost done ✅ new north end pitch barrier installed, creating a safe walkway to the west side of the ground. In addition, also a new area to view the match from, chuffed to have it ready for the new season. 💛💙

Looks like that gives them a shot at licensing:

Helps that the leisure centre building is so close to the cage with floodlights and there is space for covered spectator areas on two sides. Guess they should change their name now though?

With Crossgates having plans to revamp their ground, including floodlights, that would make the existing Premier Division all floodlit or with plans to go floodlit.

With Thornton Hibs currently installing Floodlights that gives more than 30 clubs with or soon to have floodlights.

Right now everyone in Premier is floodlit except Crossgates and Inverkeithing. Half of clubs in First Division Conferences A & B. Third of clubs in X.

Grand total 34 out of 59 by my reckoning.

Quite a few others somewhere along way to getting them... digging trunking, raising columns, or upgrading existing training lights. Unsure any will be ready until spring at earliest though.

Pretty amazing when you consider 10yrs ago only 9-10 clubs in EOSL had lights (of whom only 4 still in league); and while few did in East Juniors they were basically never used in anger.

It's also interesting to note that the often criticised SoS has, I believe, 11 out of 14 clubs using floodlit grounds with just Abbey Vale, Lochmaben and Upper Annandale without.

Inverkeithing swift’s moving to dalgety bay leisure centre

taking on the pitches and Astro

That’s disappointing. Another Astro in a cage doesn’t appeal. And how do you build up a fan base if you move to another town?

Mind you at least it’s not a half mile hike to the changing rooms now.

They could change their name to the Dalgety Bay Rollers

Nithsdale don't have lights do they?

Wigtown's presumably in hand?

As you say a big shift - several done in council 3G scheme, plus Creetown recently put them up under their own steam.

See that from pics on NLS. Presumably only good enough for training or athletic track? They don't seem to ever play home midweeks after August/before April and their winter games are 2pm.

I was at a midweek game a couple of years ago against Lochmaben and the lights were used. Highlights are on YouTube.

I remember years ago when it was first built our under 20s used to play there.

There was a raised area as you come out of the sports centre for viewing which was half decent.

Re their name they were always just Hillfield Swifts until they joined the EOSL maybe go back to that.

Then again them playing in the bay isn’t exactly a Glasgow side playing in Clackmananshire.

I’ve heard Burntisland shipyards floodlights start in June sometime
