EOS Grounds for Optimism

Was the funding for the ground redevelopment dependant on joining a league affiliated to the pyramid?.

Nope, not directly. The funding and the ground isn't linked to any one team at the club, it is the club as a whole, which is responsible for dozens of teams at all levels, boys and girls, which gained funding for initial redevelopment work. The senior team at the club and the league they play in is largely irrelevant for that.

.

I think that's a point a lot of people "forget". Dunipace isn't a first team only. We are a community club with teams from young kids all the way up to our 3 adult teams (Senior, Amateur and Over 35's (affiliated)) and 2 development teams (19's and 20's). It's all run by the same people, under the same constitution, for the good of everyone. The first team is the "flagship" team if you like, but the club and Westfield park is about more than the first team. It's a model many other teams follow.

What the ground redevelopment did do, along with all the other work being done not carried out via that funding (toilets, changing rooms, hospitality, covered enclosure, disabled toilets and viewing etc., which are all self funded outside of the Westfield redevelopment grant) meant the SFA licence was within touching distance. The old Westfield would never have been able to be made "good" from that perspective, despite the work being done in the other 3 licence towers (first team controls, youth team controls and general club controls)

With licensing now a possibility, in part due to the ground upgrade, and that requiring commitment to the Pyramid, further investigation was done and it was decided once the info was known that moving was the best thing for the club for the long term and absolutely the right thing to do.

It has, so far, absolutely proven to be the case.

So, the grant wasn't dependent on the first team moving, but it played a part, along with all the other work, in making it the most sensible long term move.

You won't find anyone at the club who thinks it wasn't the right thing to do now we are a year down the line. Nothing but good things to say about it.

Only £300k on toilets? cheapskates.............

That also means they won't be eligible for a license as for £ 300k I'm sure these toilet blocks aren't gold-plated...

So at the moment we have Camelon, Dunipace, Dunbar Utd and now Tranent pushing ahead to be Licenced in time for next season, with Dalkeith continuing work and perhaps Haddington looking at funding options for lights which is "all" they are missing.  Looking good for the EoS and an increasing amount of Licenced clubs.

- and St.Andrews Utd -

Amazing given where we were 18 months ago.

Great to see around 7 or 8 clubs heading towards to a potential club license for next season.

Be a shame if it’s slightly offset by a number of others potentially losing theirs - Wigtown, Golspie, Girvan and Vale of Leithen prime candidates I fear.

Has there been anything from Sauchie on licensing yet? They already have lights & can't imagine their ground being too far off in meeting other criteria.

Tweedmouth have put in a lot of work into their facilities but no idea if floodlights are on the horizon.

I'll be surprised if any club loses their licence to be honest.  Perhaps they will be stricter this time but they tend to protect the historical members.

This is always a factor.

With golspie’s bus shelter being permitted they may well get away with a few guys with torches handling out sparklers at the gate when needed.

Historically absolutely they have protected members, but there's definitely been a change within past year or two.

Be interesting to follow how things develop over next year.

Burntisland's planning application for lights has been approved, though one of the conditions is that the lights can only operate between 4pm and 9pm Monday to Sunday - which does kind of make them redundant for winter afternoons and midweek games unless they kick off at 7.15 or earlier for cup games...
