EOS Grounds for Optimism

I'm sure people will be telt.

Bonnyrigg must be close to having their ducks in a row off the pitch for a licence.

Looking good. I really like NDP, the only thing it lacks is a bit of seating. Something in front of the clubhouse would make it perfect.

The possibility of Swifts one day playing their Perth neighbours St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup would open up if they achieve their next off-field goal.

“We’ve put our application in this week to be assessed for our SFA licence,” Gunnion revealed.

“We are extremely keen to have that in place by the start of next season, which will entitle us to take part in the Scottish Cup qualifying rounds.

Really like the set up at Jeanfield, best of luck with the licensing.

passed the half demolished remains of Meadowbank today.

There's a perfectly good, and EOSFL acceptable set, of floodlights by the 3G pitch that Leith Athletic used- it's a shame no one at the Council thought to reuse them elsewhere for the good of football in Edinburgh.

My thought was they could be re-erected at the Council owned ground at Paties Road.

Good to see Ormiston's new set-up yesterday, first time I've been there since they left the Juniors 20 years ago.  Gradually working towards getting everything in place for their Licence, which I assume could take another season or two.

Watching the Bonnyrigg highlights - intro shows the park and some portacabins which presumably helps meet the ground criteria https://youtu.be/4586Ng4R7I0

Penicuik have recently had a planning application approved for a disabled viewing platform and extension to their pavilion: https://planning-applications.midlothian.gov.uk/OnlinePlanning/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=PGQP5PKV07J00

That led me onto floodlights - looking at their planning application in 2012 (and also Dalkeith's at the same time), they might need to upgrade their lights as the average lux is only ~120 for both, short of the 200 lux required in the 2019 ground criteria. Couldn't find info about Easthouses' lights, but they might the same.

And finally on a less optimistic note, Kelty's planning application for their new stand/cafe/offices at the south end of the ground was withdrawn in October.

We withdrew the application on our architects advice, we needed a noise report and a further report on the proposed cafe. These reports wouldnt have been done on time for the council decision deadline. We are in the process of getting these reports which are taking a couple of months to do and will resubmit with the hope all will be approved within the next 3 months.

200 Lux is only a recommendation.  In practice, it would probably only be enforced should there be complaints made by the league that the lights are below match standard.

"Clubs are required to have a floodlight system at the ground. It is recommended  that the following minimum levels apply:
Average – 200 lux Min/Max – 0.25      Where a relevant body or league raises concerns regarding the suitability of a floodlight system, it will be a matter for the Licensing Committee to determine the suitability of the system."

True. Looked up Selkirk's planning application and they went for a system that gave 217 lux. If it turns out that smaller clubs like Burntisland, Coldstream and WW (:P) need lights to remain licensed, then they could probably get away with lights similar to Penicuik which would surely cost less than Selkirk's £60k.

Doesn't it also depend on available power supply as to how much Lux is possible? I'm not really sure.
