Does anyone know what’s happening with the suspended councillors? Despite saying that no decision has been taken given that they have already started building the new tram stop and gyratory at Piccardy Place it seems only a matter of time. What is perhaps most galling is that the council has spent about £5.5 million pounds and another £3.6 million from the SG to do up parts of Leith Walk, resurfacing roads, new cycle lanes and other decorative bits and pieces. The way that money is wasted in Edinburgh, it always seems like we have some boys from the bowling club and ladies from the local bingo being told they can spend it how they see fit. Shouldn't be too much hassle hopefully. Personally I like them but the way to make them really effective is to extend the network and make them cheaper. Leith Walk will close in one direction for about 18 months IIRC with traffic diverted via Easter Road. That'll be fun I have no overall issue with extending the tram however the way it is getting railroaded through is concerning. Leith Walk is all hipster but Easter Road as grim as it ever was. Piles of rubbish, boarded up shops, broken windows, graffiti and... the locals. I live quite close to it and it's a bit nicer at the top end, closer to Abbeyhill, but as you go down towards Duke Street (?) it gets pretty grim. It reminds me of George Street in Aberdeen. What benefit do the trams bring that buses didn't? Edinburgh is a terrible place to travel around by car, they could have put a train stop at the airport too for the money.
