Is this what they mean by internalised homophobia? Having been involved in an LGBT football fan group, I wouldn't even mind as much if homophobes just accepted the fact they were homophobes. Rather that than the "I don't care what they are, just don't bring politics in to football!!!" In fact, we got a whole host of lovely comments from 'fans' on social media: - "Everything that's wrong with society is people like you, jump on a bandwagon why don't you, take it to an extreme level" - "so your saying someone that's gay would be offended by the word poof aimed at a straight person with a fancy hair do?" (This was a personal favourite of mine) - "this is not for me. And I don't apologise for my strait view" - "plumbers are a minority. Don't see their flags though" Let's ignore the fact that 72% of people have heard homophobic abuse at football games and 1/5 of 18-24 year olds would be embarrassed if their favourite player came out as gay, because Bob - who doesn't care about whatever sexuality you are - has assured us that he's never heard any abuse at a game. Is that Bob as in Neil and Bob ?
