HibeeJibee
Today marked the halfway point of the league campaign*, and as things stand there are 3 teams in contention - not discounting others chasing their coat tails. AlansHotBath
I picked Spartans to win at the start of the season, and will stick with that prediction. I can see BSC dropping off a bit from here (but still finishing in the top 3) and Spartans just pipping EK. Hopefully the title race will go until the last few weeks at least, it's been pretty interesting so far (even as someone looking up in jealously from mid-table). Although they aren't quite at the halfway point yet (13 games played) what are the chances of Hawick matching Fort William's 08-09 campaign? I've heard the performances are a lot better since Tully came in but a win still doesn't appear to be in sight
HibeeJibee
Their next 2 LL games are East Kilbride (H) and Cumbernauld (A), too. After that a big festive period playing:Whitehill (A) ... 12th Dalbeattie (H) ... 15th Gala (A) ... 10th Vale (H) ... 14th then a tough January-February with a 6-week run of top half clubs in Selkirk (A), Spartans (H), Civil Service (H), Stirling Uni (A), East Stirlingshire (A), Gretna (A). Finish-up in March & April withEdusport (H) ... 13th Edinburgh Uni (H) ... 11th BSCG (A) ... 1st plus also 2 postponed games v East Stirlingshire (H) and Dalbeattie (A) to be rescheduled. HibeeJibee
Oddly enough there are only 4 clubs left still in 2 cups and they're all mid/lower-table... Civil Service; Whitehill; Edusport; and Vale. East Stirlingshire, Gala and Edinburgh Uni have none left. (Obviously all this excludes end-of-season Lowland League Cup). Down a level LTHV are still in 4 cups while Kelty, Leith, Tynecastle (exclusive of tomorrow's South & East Cup-Winners' Shield) and Burntisland (including Fife Cup) are still in 3. Rab B Nesbit
Wouldn't like to call it at the top. If Davy Irons had been in charge at Gretna from the start of the season they'd be right up there too. From a WW perspective happy with our 16 points from 14 games but above Hawick everyone fighting for every point and no one wants that 2nd bottom spot and the anxious wait it'll bring. Everyone in bottom half within 8pts points of 2nd bottom. EDIT: If you convert into "points per game" to allow for the 7 games-in-hand then the league (Hawick aside) splits up into 3 fairly distinct races just now for title, 4th and 2nd-bottom spots:2.38 - Spartans 2.35 - East Kilbride 2.33 - BSCG 1.76 - Stirling Uni 1.73 - Gretna 1.71 - Selkirk 1.66 - Cumbernauld 1.61 - East Stirlingshire 1.26 - Civil Service 1.20 - Gala 1.14 - Whitehill 1.13 - Edinburgh Uni 0.92 - Edusport 0.84 - Dalbeattie 0.80 - Vale 0.00 - Hawick
HibeeJibee
Today was matchday #18 thus marking the three-fifths point, although only BSCG and Cumbernauld have actually attained that figure. BSCG remain on top, but their lead has been slashed to 2pts with Spartans (3 games in hand) and EK (1) breathing down their neck. Behind them are the pack of Cumbernauld, 'Shire, Selkirk, Gretna and Stirling Uni but it'd be a huge effort to catch-up. HibeeJibee
On the "points per game" rank the big risers have been East Stirlingshire and Edinburgh Uni, and the big fallers Stirling Uni and Civil Service... but no-one has broken from 1 pack into another, except a decent gap has opened-up above Vale/Dalbeattie.2.46 - Spartans 2.17 - East Kilbride 2.16 - BSCG 1.75 - East Stirlingshire 1.68 - Selkirk 1.62 - Gretna 1.62 - Stirling Uni 1.61 - Cumbernauld 1.31 - Gala 1.23 - Edinburgh Uni 1.18 - Whitehill 1.11 - Civil Service 1.11 - Edusport 0.81 - Vale of Leithen 0.78 - Dalbeattie 0.00 - Hawick
MAC THE KNIFE
REMEMBER SHIRE DO NOT PLAY IN EAST of SCOOTLAND ASSOCIATION CUPS AS STILL MEMBERS OF THE STIRLINGSHIRE ASSOCIATION. UNFORTUNATELY WE CANT PALY IN THE STIRLINGSHIRE CUP AGAIN AS THE BIG LEAGUE TEAMS CANT BE BOTHERED TO ENTER DUE TO ALLEGED FIXTURE CONGESTION SO HAVE THEY HAVE NOT PLAYED THE COMPETITION FOR THE LAST 2 SEASOMS. ARE SHIRE WINNERS BOTH YEARS by WALK OVER ?
HibeeJibee
Stirlingshire Cup has been "suspended" since 2015-16 (whose Final never got played). Of course there'd be nothing stopping 'Shire leaving the Stirlingshire FA, or being a member of both like Burntisland are and Kelty will presumably be, and entering EOS Qualifying Cup. Having exited both the Scottish and South Challenge cups, it's just the end-of-season League Cup for you now.
HibeeJibee
Two-third mark today, although only Cumbernauld have actually played 20 games. BSCG and EK have played 19... Spartans 16... East Stirlingshire 18. BSCG still lead on 42pts... EK are now 1pt behind on 41pts... Spartans are 1pt behind them on 40pts, but have 3 games-in-hand on both. East Stirlingshire are 8pts behind the leaders but have 1 game-in-hand. With both their games v Spartans still to come, they could now be contenders in the title race. Jerry Macguire
Delighted to finish 2017 in 1st place. Completely agree with HibeeJibee, Shire are right back in the mix and could have a big say on who wins the title. Just glad we don't need to play them again. HibeeJibee
Interestingly the Shire's next 8 games are against university and Border clubs and Dalbeattie; their 2 postponed games are another meeting with Hawick and hosting Spartans; before the last week of the season where they host Whitehill then visit Spartans. Put another way - after their game against Stirling Uni next weekend their only remaining games against top half clubs are Selkirk (who are currently 7th) and those 2 meetings with Spartans. Here's the schedule updated and with East Stirlingshire added. BSCG are still in the South Challenge Cup only; EK and Spartans are still in the EOS Qualifying Cup only; 'Shire has neither left.
