Supposed to be a group of three with all playing each other home and away, with the group winner playing SHFL18 home and away for a place in the SHFL the following season.

Not sure that's right just from a number of match days required. Weekend/Midweek/Weekend/Midweek/Weekend/Midweek then the two legged playoff with the Highland's bottom club.

That was what was planned ahead of the season. Dunno how many games the NCL, Midland and Superleague play, but at a guess they could all be finished - the NCL certainly could - and have a playoff winner ready to meet SHFL18 come late-April.

The Midlands are playing a double round robin as far as i'm aware so that's 36 games. North Super will be the usual 26.

Who wants them finished in April?

The SHFL will be finished in April to provide a winner to meet the Lowland League/League Two sides for the Pyramid Playoff. One would think it a good idea for whoever finishes bottom not to have to sit on their hands for a few weeks waiting for clubs in tier below to get their seasons finished ahead of the Tier 5/6 playoff, although experience suggests it'll probably be the Tier 6 clubs waiting on the SHFL getting their shit together.

Have to call this one the Dolphin Derby.

Can there be two teams closer together with a longer distance by road between them? 22.6 miles by road, 3.2 miles as the crow flies.

Maybe if you got a team from Culross together to play in Bo'ness and took a longer route via M9 J2. :) Firth of Forth too wide and the Clyde has too many bridges. Shame there's no Helensburgh team either...

Rhu v Morton would be 5 miles as the crow flies and 30+ by car.
Dunoon v Morton would be 8 miles as the crow flies and 80 by car.
Campbeltown to Girvan would be 30 miles as the crow flies and... 200 by car.
(presuming ye neve took the ferry)

God help the other NCL clubs finances if Rhu, Dunoon and Helensburgh joined the league. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 bad enough the likes of Halkirk Thurso etc going to Fort William next season and then you add those three🤣. I Ken the Highland fault passes nr Helensburgh and since the 90's the residents consider themselves part of Argyll but fairs fair!

Think he's more giving examples for Gordon's question tbh, they'd all be in the WoSFL if they dared join.

Exactly. In all seriousness any of those places would be automatic choices for WoSL. Was trying to be funny, obs died a death🤣

A while back there was talk or speculation that the North Region Juniors located west of the River Spey might get allocated to the N Cal area and that current Highland League clubs located west of the Spey might be allocated to the N Cal feeder league (to the Highland League) if they were ever relegated.

Anyone have the latest news on this?

This could possibly affect quite a few clubs. Some below will be Spey valley but east of the river:

Nairn St Ninian, Dufftown(?), Forres Thistle, Burghead Thistle, New Elgin and Cromdale (?).

Potentially from the Highland League:

Clachnacuddin, Rothes (?), Brora Rangers, Forres Mechanics, Lossiemouth United, Wick Academy, Strathspey Thistle, Nairn County and Fort William.

As individual club's fortunes change over time the N Cal area could look quite strong in ten years time if present Aberdeen/shire and Midlands League clubs win promotion to the Highland League!

Early in 2021, two clubs made enquiries about joining the NCL for 2021/22, but didn't submit applications (probably decided not to apply because of the ongoing Covid situation).  They may apply for entry next season, if the situation becomes more stable becomes ?

In addition, Fort William face potential relegation to the NCL, and Bunillidh may decide to re-activate their league membership. However, I consider that it would be unlikely for the NCL to accept more than 14 clubs in a single division, because of weather and fixture problems, and I think it's unlikely that  the league would split into two small divisions again.

As an aside, I notice that Lewis & Harris have entered the NCL's 2021/22 Football Times Cup after a few year's absence, although they are very unlikely to join the league in the future.....unless there is a serious benefactor/sponsor, out there somewhere ?
