c***s on the road

Recommended Posts

The other day, I joined the A82 at the Balloch roundabout and headed towards Dumbarton. There was a car a wee bit ahead of me travelling with their left indicator on until they pulled out to overtake and then back in. About a minute later the right indicator came on as they pulled out again and it stayed on until we reached Dumbarton. Htf can you not realise it's on for that lenght of time?

Some folk are totally oblivious to the noise an "on" indicator makes. Maybe had their radio up full blast to block out an annoying click...

That stretch of road is terrible for that, I see it almost every day.

I don't know how you can drive with an indicator on without realising.

Got a location in mind as an example of this?

There are two near me in the Dunfermline area - Fife Council spent a bit of money adding a new cycle and footpath from Fordell to Hillend and are currently spending more again on doing the same between Fordell and Crossford; the other is between Culross and Kincardine. In both cases, the roads themselves are quite narrow, twisty roads but have a high traffic volume including buses using them. The council have spent the money to make the route safer for cyclists yet some are still choosing to go on the roads.

I've cycled up that path to Fordell a few times, though if you didn't know it was there you'd miss the start of it just at the railway bridge. Other issues are there's more crap on the path than the road, got to get past people walking (last time it was a group of Scouts!), avoid the barriers halfway up the hill, and then cross the road at the top.

So I'm not surprised that someone faster and fitter than me on a road bike for example would be on the road.

As for money, funding for those paths either side of Fordell seems to have come from the Scottish Government so at least FC aren't paying for it. And at £535k for the path to Crossgates it's a drop in the ocean compared to what's spent on roads - that amount would only resurface about a mile of carriageway. Worthwhile investment to allow people to safely cycle all the way down to the coast.

If the cycle facilities are good enough and direct, most people will use them rather than the road. But end of the day these roads are for cyclists as well . After all, drivers can choose to use the parallel B roads to get to Kinross instead of the M90 (built exclusively for them at great expense). Or cut through residential rat runs instead of using the main roads because they want to avoid the traffic light queues.

Queens Park, Edinburgh.

There is a little used cycle track painted a nice shade of green next to the roadway that the lycra clad wankers insist on using.

I was just thinking today that about 90% of the bad/ignorant cycling I see is done by men funnily enough. Gaun the burdz!

Don't know where that is but if you mean Queen's Drive I'm not aware of a green cycle track there - it seems to be a narrow shared use pavement. Got a link to the location on Google Street View?

In America you can turn right at a red light if all is clear.

Almost came a cropper with this on holiday in Florida - walking back to the hotel from a restaurant just along the street, pedestrian signal changes from red to what I thought was a green man, stepped out and I'm almost flattened by a driver coming round the corner on a red light.

In the Queen's Park there is a half for pedestrians and a half coloured green for bicycles. That's not what I call a "shared pavement" but it's a matter of semantics.

There should perhaps be a sign alerting cyclists to its presence I suppose.

At a four way junction the other day and the light went green for me and the cars opposite. I was going straight on and some wee fanny opposite me was turning right. Rather than him recognising I had right of way and letting me go first he just barged his way through. I swear he would have just ploughed into the car if I hadn’t stopped.

Had that happen several times now and I swear every time it’s some wee boy racer fanny.

You must be talking about somewhere else as I've not seen green tarmac in Holyrood Park. I'm referring to this kind of narrow shared pavement: https://goo.gl/maps/gpSKiuLHRX2bT2v68

Crossroads in the village is notorious for that. The amount of times I'm going straight on but the vehicle opposite is turning right and just keeps going.

Approaching the crossroads, I indicate right as I'm heading home, in plenty of time to give the car waiting there a chance to get out before I arrive, but he sits tight which is fair enough, but just as I am about to turn right, out he pulls! Complete tosspot.

This is then followed up by two cars overtaking me (in a 30 mile zone) just before I headed up to the house. The second car then had to brake fiercely to avoid ripping its arse off on the speed bumps. F****** arseholes.

In the absence of a "c***s in the judiciary" thread.

76 year old driving without insurance kills someone on a bike in the East Neuk, drives home to Dundee, doesn't mention it to his wife, pleads ignorance to his wife after the police pay her a visit, makes plans to get the scrapes, dents and wing mirror fixed at a garage.

Given 225 hours unpaid work order. https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/local/fife/2256469/fife-cyclist-scott-walker/

What the actual f**k.

I don't follow the logic that "six months custodial sentence is not enough so you'll get 225 hours community service".

It would depend on how the case was prosecuted and what the maximum sentence is for the statutory charge libelled.

It probably should have been a charge of contravention of Section 1 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (causing death by dangerous driving) likely prosecuted on indictment but according to the report the offender pled guilty to failure to report an accident for which sentence will be limited by statute. Thus the fault that the scumbag isn't rotting for life in HMP Perth either lies with the Crown or there wasn't enough evidence, alas, to prosecute a Section 1.

I also think the penalties in death by dangerous driving offences should be reviewed. It can be prosecuted in the Sheriff Court where the maximum sentence is 5 years whereas if it was akin to murder or culpable homicide those are High Court only offences.

Yeah that is a fucking disgrace and wholly unjustifiable.  I cannot recall reading a case like this and being more angry.

Can the PF’s office appeal?  Is there any precedent for doing so?  Would the not want to piss off the Sheriff?

Can the family appeal?

If that was an 18/19 year old that murdered the cyclist in a hit and run with no insurance they'd be facing life in prison.

They wouldn't though.  The max sentence available was 6-months according to the article.

That's with what he has been charged with, there has to be a case for murder if the c**t has actually done a hit and run then went home a try cover his tracks.

But he wasn't charged with murder, we have no idea what happened but the sheriff said there was no suggestion his driving was responsible for the collision.

For the avoidance of doubt, he's a scumbag and the sentence is disgusting.
