Fort William tomorrow

Audaces Fortuna Juvat

Recommended Posts

They are as likely to have postponements in August as they are in January. Also happens the other way round. The Lossie support all sorted out other activities months in advance of our planned trip south on December 23rd as there should have been no chance it would be on, yet on it went.  Lossie scored twice in injury time to win 4-3, ferfuxake.

Did well against Wick and Strathspey, do they hold the record for the least amount of points in a season?

No

Since 1919/20, clubs with less than 4 points are as follows :

1920/21  Forres Mechanics  3 pts from 12 games

1989/90   Clachnacuddin  3 pts from 34 games

2007/08   Fort William  3 pts from 28 games

2008/09   Fort William  1 pt from 28 games

Also, equalling Fort's current total :

2015/16   Rothes  4 pts from  34 games

Does anyone know what happened at Fort's committee meeting last week, about next season ?

Surely it's best for everyone concerned if they duck out and join a more competitive level, especially if Cove end up going up. Get the league at a more manageable 30 game season and use it as a catalyst to develop the pyramid in the North.

Best for everyone isn't necessarily what's best for Fort William. If the Highland League goes to 16 it seems more likely they'd lock it down and Fort William are left cut adrift with no real way to return until everyone gets together.

If Cove go up and Fort William stay, the league goes to a odd number and they might discuss how to deal with that issue. This could see applications from more than one club, and anyone rejected might then be motivated to start discussing a Tier 6 feeder so that they don't have to wait for another application opportunity.

We've played with an odd number before.

No one is interested in joining. Should Cove go up, you might see BOD apply, as with Cove in the league the juniors have no chance of winning it. Without Cove, it looks way more open.

Right now the Highland League is often written off as a closed shop. An odd number nowadays is more likely to be seen as an open vacancy and something to aspire towards.

Surely they'd want to find an 18th club anyway, if Cove go up/Fort William quit but not both? Otherwise an odd number every week but doesn't make the league campaign any shorter.

That'd be my thinking but they did run with 15 for the bulk of the 00's. Maybe they'll go a year with 17 . See how the landscape lies with the SJFA/Pyramid and if Cove go straight back down.

So are Fort staying or leaving? I thought it was a case of they were definitely leaving and the decision to be made was NCL or fold?

They found their new board of directors. One of the tweets announcing the new board mentioned "a very healthy bank balance"  being handed over from the existing board to the next. Indicates they've got funding to keep things going if the choose to stay in the Highland.

The change of the board is meant to be made official today, so there might be some news that filters through this week.

I don’t see any reason why we’d WANT to find another team. 18 has been nothing but a problem since it started.

Although the main reason for that is hair-trigger postponements and clubs not looking after their pitches. Or owning one.

Spartans 2  Cove 1  (aggregate  2-5).  Congratulations so far. Can Cove defeat Cowdenbeath in the final ?

A 17 team league does mean 2 less matches for all clubs, so the fixtures would be less congested, particularly at the end of the season when clubs are playing catchup. Whilst a league of 16 clubs would be more manageable, it would be very good news if they are able to stay in the HFL. Claggan is a great day out for other clubs and fans.

Juniors BoD are licensed, so it might be difficult to reject them, if they submit an application. Their chairman said recently that the club wasn't interested in joining the HFL, but in the SJFA questionnaire  they 'voted' in favour of the pyramid.  Confusing !

It still requires 34 match days though, so the lack of match days will still be a problem if there is a winter with a lot of postponements.

Not so confusing, really.

BoD are pissed at the HFL for rejecting them last time out (quite rightly too) but in the event there was an SPFL/SFA sanctioned "North League" and pyramid they could win their place in it on merit without recourse to the closed shop self protectionist HFL clubs. It would be a very pleasant f**k You for BoD I reckon

Pleased that the Fort will carry on at HL level.

Hopefully a way can be found for them to be more competitive next season. The Fort side I saw once or twice this year on my travels seemed to consist of the best players from a pub team, some randoms pulled in from the bus queue outside, and Iain Foggo.
