Was that Hampden's last hurrah?

It also cost over half a billion $... just need every man, woman and child in the nation to chip in £100 each and we'll be most of the way there?

McFadden must have brushed-up on whatever I'd seen or heard him on last week as then he concluded one of the biggest benefits was SFA would now profit from concerts "and stuff". Except they already do so via owning Hampden Park Ltd.

Aye I've noticed over the last fee weeks that quite a few folk in the media seem to be pushing this nonsense. Big bad Queens Park! Do these morons seriously think Queens Park were banking all of the profit from gigs?!

Stewart was talking a heap of pish last night, its gonnae take time for the SFA tae work out what can be done tae Hampden, he is wanting plans and costings before they even bought the place.

A hope they do something clever like in Vancouver to help the atmosphere and smaller games

Yes of course. This is a common thing. Feasibility studies and budget costing should’ve been done for a wide range of different options before purchasing the place.

Why is that pish? Maybe not full plans but at the very least there should have been research into developing the stadium, the suitability, the cost of this and possible funding. Otherwise you could end up owning a dud of a stadium that they can't redevelop. If they were really serious about redevelopment they would/should have done this, the fact they didn't says it all, other than a fresh lick of paint and a wee upgrade to the changing rooms there is no intention to do anything.

Don’t be daft. They didn’t own it, there’s no way they’d spend the money to investigate redevelopment until they did.

My first Scotland game was also the night that King Kenny scored that "tap in" to equal Denis Law's goal record. Like this, in Spanish:

Depressing beyond words to revisit previous eras and realise how drastically we've plummeted and just how good we actually had it until the crash started in the 90s.

An example of what's possible if a stadium project is done well.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/45578364
Welsh rugby turnover up to almost 100M, with significant income from non-rugby events and the construction debt now almost wiped out.

SRU for comparison

The obvious solution everyone is missing regarding the distance to the pitch is to put the pitch on a rolling platform that moves the pitch to beside the stand that the ball is closest to. So if the ball is in the box at the Cellic end, the pitch moves towards that end, and so forth.

Win-win.

The stadium being plonk in the middle of Cardiff, ten minutes walk from the station.  Also: proper catering, decent atmosphere, acceptable seating and, presumably, competent management.

And it's rugby. A different sport, which folk go to for alternative reasons.

We might as well discuss college "football" at the Ohio Stadium if we're going for wild comparisons.

Or the MCC.

Guarantee the catering at the college football or the MCC is light years away from the crap that Hampden serves up.  Every international game needs to be promoted as a one off event.  Instead, the SFA for years has relied on the loyalty of 20-odd thousand fans who will go to Scotland games irrespective of the conditions.    To that end, there's loads to be learned from - particularly - US sports, as well as alternative UK sports.

Are those "alternative reasons" because they like rugby rather than football?  Seems to me it's exactly the same reasons, but a different sport.
