Raidernation
Only ever been the alcohol with me, I have some pretty bad reactions to OTC/prescription meds without trying anything more serious.I can also honestly claim to have never held a lit cigarette or even had a single drag of one.More than made up by decades of alcohol abuse sadly

Can you provide me with the statistics on sensibility levels for the 'youth of today' compared to 20 years ago? Only through googling which you could equally do yourself. And do you mean sensibility levels or sensitivity levels? Without doing it my guess would be that the research might be stuck on the fact sensibility levels is a difficult thing to measure, now or in the past. I haven't checked though so I don't really know. Do you think youth of today are more or less sensible? I think it some ways more and in some ways less. When I was in primary school saying something was gay was an insult (that I used) kids these days aren't as pig headedly ignorant. They are absolutely far more tech savvy that previous generations. As for ways in which my generation was more sensible? Struggling tbh, I guess f2f interaction because we didn't grow up in a pandemic but seems a bit of a false victory. And it's all anecdotal to my experience anyway as sensibility seems a qualitative thing to measure (rather than drug taking which is quantitative). Also when I did live in the UK, I knew one person who was openly taking drugs and my social circles was pretty much the stereotypical demographic of 25-35 year old men (fun I know ). Everyone did drink to excess though, but drugs was never really brought up. Edited July 1, 2022 by Satoshi

It never, ever made me feel high/relaxed/anything. But when I stopped taking it my body reacted really badly. Sweating, muscle cramps, sleeplessness, everything. Lasted about 2 weeks. Vowed never to take it again. I would need to be in horrific shape physically to even consider taking an opioid again.

invergowrie arab
My anecdote about the ching is that I know people in their late 30s who will share a g with their missus on a Saturday night out. Its not just the preserve of gangs of lads on a big one its ubiquitous in utterly standard pub nights out now. It's like having a cigarette.
Alert Mongoose
Tried most of the usual stuff a couple of times (minus the hard stuff) and never really particularly enjoyed any of it apart from one tremendous night on mushrooms. Very much right time, right company. For me all of it loses its appeal as soon as you have grown up commitments and responsibilities.

Very much this. I had my dabbling phase, and whilst I dont regret it, I definitely reached a natural conclusion there. When I got with the future wife, she utterly despised drugs, and the comedowns/hangovers could ruin days. The tho3ight of going through that on a regular basis when there's kids in the mix too is enough to give the fear on its own.

alta-pete
That’s the third weekend away and still not a drop. Can’t say I’ve missed it too terribly - kinda backs up the theory of it just being a lazy habit - but equally not really noticing any sort of bounce in toxin free energy. Will continue; friend’s party this coming weekend and I’ve already made the excuse that I’ll drive.
throbber
I had 10 beers and a half bottle of wine yesterday.

alta-pete
That's a month by, with one slip for a bottle of red that I really kicked myself about for the following few days, and (if I'm allowed that slip) still off it. Bottles of Stella 0% seem the best tasting option for me as a pretendy substitute for now. I expect its a parallel to a quitting smoker taking up a vape. Eventually, I hope, the habit/need to be holding something cold and (sort of) hoppy will wane to insignificance. A pal got us tickets for the Spurs game at the weekend, I volunteered to drive - much to everyone's surprise - and was pleasantly suprised to find the Park Bar on PRdW did a most acceptable Heineken 0% on draft. Christ, I'm turning into a grown up - the biggest complaint of the weekend was the queuing to get out of the Albion car park!
scottsdad
Having not had a drink in a few days, last night I had some homebrew. It hasn't agreed with me. My arse is in tatters. My bog looks like a tiger's back. And the wife isn't home to clean it up yet.
Abdul_Latif
Kicked the drink, I think forever, as of Sunday. Fully aware it’s only 3 days later, but looking back at the amount of drinking I’ve done and spent on it for f**k all in return is shocking. Might well change my mind, but think I’ve strapped myself in for not bothering with drinking at all going forward.
