The Catalonian independence issue is not seen as a left/right issue but I hope the new PM will call off the dogs I need relation to the Catalonian ministers who were being persecuted by Rajoy.

It would be like Gordon Brown and George Foulkes having a bigger say in UK government policy... Nothing to celebrate here me thinks Sent from my VFD 710 using Pie and Bovril mobile app

welshbairn
Madrid are talking about going for a federal system, better solution for Catalonia and Spain than full indepence imo. Catalonia is not the same as Scotland. You've got a big majority in Barcelona for staying in Spain for a start. A lot of the push for indy over there comes from the type of c***s from Moray and Perthshire over here who voted Tory. welshbairn
The Catalonian independence parties have decided to vote with the Spanish right wing and fascist parties to fold the socialist Government. Meanwhile Catalan News think the mess of all the Catalonian politicians being on trial under a very weird and brutal system could somehow be helped if they listened to our Speaker. https://twitter.com/catalannews/status/1095763564831432706
Granny Danger
I don’t understand the support for Catalan independence from people outwith Catalonia. I certainly support their right of self determination which they are being denied but I am totally neutral on the issue itself. The treatment of Catalan politicians has been OTT and is not helping anyone’s cause other than possibly the Catalans themselves.

Is it not the case most support self determination principle rather than outright Catalan independence? Although to contradict myself, I support Catalan independence

Although to contradict myself, I support Catalan independence There's no evidence of a majority wanting Catalan independence, if there were I'd probably support it but otherwise I'd happily support the majority view. Although there's something a bit queasy about the richest part of a country wanting to split off to avoid subsidising the poorer parts, like Northern Italy. Until recently the main pro independence parties were solidly right wing and supported by local business leaders.

If they were so eager to stay, you'd think they'd want to make that clear as opposed to just not bothering their arse.

By taking part they would be acknowledging that the Spanish Constitution which was voted for by a massive majority in Catalonia has no weight in Catalonia anymore. Why not turn up, give a clear "we want to stay in Spain" vote. Thus making it legitimate and putting the whole issue to bed once and for all? By not taking 5 minutes out of their day to put an X in a box, it gives the impression that they're just not that bothered about staying.
