If more west teams apply to the South Of Scotland league, that would help. It is supposed to be the feeder for the west and southwest of Scotland.  There are a good bunch of west teams in the Lowland League.

A good bunch? That’ll be 2 and both of them are brand new clubs the other is BSC but they play at Alloa.

I suspect the reason Glasgow Uni are allowed to opt out is due to there being no suitable league for them to play in.

It is though.

They have chosen not to join the South of Scotland league, which is the only current option open to them. That is most definitely a choice they have made themselves, the door is not closed for them or any other West side.

The suitability (or perceived lack thereof) of that league doesn't remove any West teams option to join it. So it is most definitely their choice.

The choice to pay £500 for a bus every two weeks to play at high school playing fields.

Glashow Uni must have signed up to the “pyramid” as they only got their license recently but haven’t been compelled to play in the SOS league. Therefore why should any Glasgow based club who gain their license be forced to play in it?

East Kilbride are in the EoSFA, so it's possible that a Glasgow area club could do what Kelty Hearts did and join the EoS league rather than the SoS league:

Why on earth should a Glasgow based team play in the East Of Scotland league? Its absurd.

Wasn't suggesting it was an ideal scenario. Was only pointing out that if East Kilbride can be in the EoSFA then presumably so could Clydebank.

EK just joined the EOSFA when they went into the LL probably to compete in all of their cups like most LL sides do. They had originally joined the SOSL but never played a game in it.

Gretna also play in EOS Qualifying Cup (indeed the only LL clubs who play in the Southern Counties Cup are Dalbeattie and Edusport)...

However, there is some kind of boundary between EOSL and SOSL as between HL and LL, which seemed to correspond to the former South Challenge Cup zones i.e. Strathclyde, Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway on the one hand and Stirlingshire, Fife, Lothians and Borders on the other. It seems to have disappeared now - possibly after website being redone at the start of the season - but last season there was an article in LL website noting whether clubs would drop to EOSL or SOSL if relegated.

EDIT: It's worth recalling the local cups are run by local FAs not by the leagues and local FAs have no boundaries... Annan, Dalbeattie and Threave played in EOS League for many years but never joined EOSFA, instead remaining Southern Counties FA members and playing in the Southern Counties Cup; whereas Gretna joined EOSL and EOSFA in 2008 and have always played in EOS Qualifying Cup.

Burntisland are members of both the EOS and Fife FAs. Kelty will presumably do likewise.

That said the Fife Cup is a bit of an anomaly now as the other equivalent cups (Forfarshire/Stirlingshire/Renfrewshire) have fallen into abeyance.

Still think that Linlithgow will apply to join the EOSFL when Kelty win the league, license anomaly disappears when that happens, it's going to be a one at a time application from the top junior teams as a way of getting into the Lowland league to then get a crack at getting into the SPFL. It's all about timing. One promotion step at a time. Looking good for the Lowland league in my book.

"....when Kelty win the league......"  That'll be that then.  the rest can give up knowing that the league has been decided.  Sad news for Lothian HV, Tynecastle and a few others.....

Accept that it's not a foregone conclusion but I think that over the course of the season Kelty will edge out LTHV. Also think that this will make the EOSFL a better league too, it's been dying for a couple of seasons and this might resurrect it.

Just teasing Hi Hat ;-)

The EoSFL league could be good viewing over the next couple of years.  It looks like Lothian may be around for another season either way as they don't seem to be making any progress towards their license.   Tynecastle and Leith will improve, and then we have a few 'east' Junior teams supposedly showing interest - Linlithgow, Bo'Ness.  And all vying for that one spot.......
