Great memories! I assume Willie Gardiner is the “Gardiner (Bo’ness United)” I have listed who won three Junior caps in 1951 scoring three goals?

That is correct.

Thank you. It is good to confirm the first name as there were always sets of brothers playing at the same time. On that topic I have “Ormond (Bo’ness United)” capped in 1957. Is this Willie Ormond’s brother Gibby? It is around the right time but I have him signing for Airdrie from Kilsyth Rangers, not Bo’ness, on 26 September 1957.

Correct again, Gibby was transfered to Kilsyth and then to Airdrie. Like the other two, he was also a Falkirk Bairn.

Thanks Standalone. I wonder if, while we are on a roll, you have first names for the following Bo'ness United Junior Internationals?

 Bell  capped in 1969

Chambers capped in 1966

Donnelly capped in 2013

Fleming capped in 2010

Jim (?)  Hogg capped in 1951

McBain capped in 1953

Kilsyth were playing Linlithgow Rose in a pre-season game about ten years ago. The referee introduced himself to us as the son of Gibby Ormond

On BU players I think 1981 was Ian McQueen again. His brother Jim had left Bo'ness by 1981. It may be the longest gap between a first and second cap, 1969 and 1981.

Thanks for that. I have been back to the Evening Times report of the match in 1981 to check and it says it was Ian.

I have some more amendments to this list of Junior/Full caps:

1) Bobby Templeton played for Kilmarnock Rugby XI and was selected to play for Junior Scotland versus England in 1898. He was signed Hibernian immediately afterwards. I have added:

Bobby Templeton (Kilmarnock Rugby XI and Aston Villa/Newcastle United/Woolwich Arsenal/Kilmarnock) 1 & 11

Bobby Templeton famously was said to have put his head in a lion's mouth to win a bet!

2 I found some more matches played by Peter Nellis but where his surname was mis-spelt. This makes his record:

Peter Nellies (Douglas Water Thistle and Heart of Midlothian) 4 & 2

Wasn't Dixie Deans actually John Deans?

Yes that is correct. I have “Dixie” Deans’ full name as John Kelly Deans. The Dixie of course coming from the Everton & England striker “Dixie” Dean and the origins of his nickname are lost in the mists of time although there are some theories. Apparently the original Dixie disliked the nickname whereas by all accounts the second one loved it because of the association with the goal scoring Evertonian.
