Sportscene Watch 19/20

Reading this thread back, it seems there is one main match left and it's not the only top tier derby of the round. That is utterly pathetic. Maybe if it drew the crowds Killie-Ayr would get it would get greater prominence but still no excuse (not that I'm dying to see more of our dire display.)

This is a perfect opportunity to highlight clubs who don't get much coverage but they chose to 'feature' the Celtic game? Poor choice. They could feature more games and out some actual effort into giving better coverage, but the difference between funding on highlights and football by the BBC in Scotland compared to England is plain to see.

Sorry but I doubt East Fife v Brora Rangers ever entered anyone's head as a potential featured game.

I'm not disputing that the Celtic game was  a poor choice with the other potential games available*. I'm still clinging to some hope that they were originally going to feature Albion Rovers v St Johnstone, but that doesn't have much basis.

It's worth remembering that the last Celtic home Scottish Cup tie that wasn't shown live (vs. Arbroath in 2012/13) wasn't a featured game. That finished 1-1 and almost certainly prompted accusations of bias that a poor result for Celtic had minimal coverage.  Had there been only a single camera (or whatever Celtic TV normally provide) at Celtic Park today, and Brechin pulled off a shock, the same accusations would doubtless have been made.

*Dunfermline v Morton is also a poor choice IMO.  Of the games that went ahead, Motherwell v Hamilton and Queen of the South v Partick should have been chosen.

Is the problem really the pundits have no knowledge of the lower leagues? The results programme this afternoon had all the panel guffawing when the suggestion was that Ayr were the Man City of the lower leagues but that's us on 90 goals for the season. Not that they would know.

The way folk are banging on then this highlights show should be running for 3 hours to accommodate extended highlights of every match. Never going to happen.

No, its the terrible choices of main features. They already covered Aberdeen - St Mirren live, we only needed the goals not 20 minutes devoted to it.

Not at all, just reasonable highlights of all the games at this round. The analysis and highlights of three games (3 of the closest at that) took up less time than just the highlights of the Celtic game. 4-5 minutes highlights of each game isn't unreasonable. The roundup format of commentary doesn't help, they could at least do that fake live commentary they do for the premiership highlights every week.

This is one of the very few times a year we actually get Scottish football highlights on a Saturday night and some of the most exciting moments feel like they've been glossed over.

And yet further up in the thread someone was advocating Aberdeen v St Mirren to lead the programme because it was such a good game.

It's also one of only three games with multi-camera coverage and on-site commentary. They're hardly going to waste that.

...and the Aberdeen game. And, currently on, the Dunfermline game. Or are we not supposed to point that out?
