Indeed, but only because the club had failed to give him indication that he'd be kept on after January.

Embarrassing PR again from Rovers. Also a bit surprised that the new manager wouldn't  consider giving Scott a go for next year. Is he any worse than the myriad of Tier 3 juniors that we're signing?

Trouten apart, McLaughlin was the only Kerr signing who would have made 5/10 for last season. It remains to be seen if we've recruited a better left back.

He couldn't get Lanark out of the bottom league, he was let go by Wishaw - not exactly sure how he has been effective over the last decade or so.

Heard rumours of player revolt caused the parting at Wishaw.

this appointment still seems unbelievable, people in the junior game are still stunned at this, especially given the names linked.

Did nobody want the job and he was last man standing ?

He wasn't the only Junior manager to throw his hat in the ring.

What other junior managers went for it.

surely they weren’t operating at a lower level than Wishaw

Scott McLaughlin was terrible for us 2 years ago when we nearly finished bottom, admittedly in a terrible team.
Couldnt believe Albion signed 3 of that team in McLaughlin, Higgins and perry.
I always liked McLaughlin for Airdrie. His attitude and commitment (Imo) couldn't be questioned and always put a shift in. Obviously a few years older now but I still reckon he could do a job in L2, especially for a QP, Edinburgh or similar.
Failing that, I can see him heading to a BSC Glasgow or an East Stirling.

Can’t see there being the same issues at The Rovers though, most guys at this level should be looking after themselves away from training allowing the manager to work on shape, tactics etc.

At the junior level sometimes the only training guys do is the 2 sessions a week (if they even make both) so training has to involve a lot of fitness work which most players don’t like.

PR has never been Rovers strong point but we just seem to stagger from one disaster to another of late. Of course the current manager should have contacted McLaughlin to tell him he wasn't in his plans- could have been dealt with so easily.

Any indication of what the complaint was for? Training was too hard, too easy, too complicated, too shite?

The club would like to issue the following statement.
All player and coach contracts expired at end of season 2017/18. As soon as our new manager was appointed, the club secretary made contact with all players via their internal mobile training App to invite them to meet and have discussions with the new manager. There were also discussions between individual players on the clubs’ future plans. Some players attended the meeting with the new manager, some made different arrangements with John while others declined the invitation and a few didn’t respond. We at that point presumed those not contacting the club did not wish to be involved with ARFC next season. Scott McLaughlin has now spoken to the club and we intend to move on and look forward to next season.
We have spoken to the PFA and they are more than happy that we did everything reasonable to contact all the players.
We at Albion Rovers pride ourselves on being an open, community minded club and wish Scott all the best for his future and thank him for his time at Albion Rovers FC.

Further to the above - the story regarding Scott McLaughlin was first broken by the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser Mark Pirie who did not contact Rovers for their side of the story. Subsequently to the paper appearing with the article the Rovers tried to get in touch with Pirie but he never returned their calls.....hey ho...never let the truth get in the way of a good story...eh Mark

What about the story is untrue?

They didn’t even have McLaughlin phone number?

Dont let your love for the club blind you or you’ll end up like Rangers fans.

the club have behaved poorly, putting a message in a “internal mobile group” ,think that’s a WhatsApp group chat to the rest of the world, surely the new manager or staff should have went out their way to call boys personally.

Its not like they’re busy conducting multi million pound deals across continents.

What an embarrassing word salad of a statement.
