Didn't he not also have a short spell at BSC Glasgow in their 1st season?

Yeah and Wishaw as well earlier this season post Lanark.

Should add: Scott Gemmell (ex Junior player) was also part of his coaching staff at Wishaw along with Mitchell. The trio were at Lanark.

It was training that caused him to leave Wishaw in Feb - players complained to committee about it!

Who knows, Brogan could be a success but on the face of it, it seems like a rather strange appointment.

Do Rovers have a budget squeeze at the moment? Wonder if they couldn’t afford someone who’s been in the senior game more recently.

He came to Stirling as a player and was a player manager initially before hanging up the boots. He did very well with us, was a popular manager with the fans, before the team entered a prolonged spell of being honking at which point he was let go. I think he was a mixed bag at Arbroath and I’ve no idea how he’s got on at his various lower level jobs since.

Yes, big style! There was talk of Ian Murray but not sure he would have fancied the low budget and almost non-existent wage.

Murray was reportedly very good at convincing players to sign up for relative peanuts at Dumbarton. If you look at our squads from his time too, you struggle to see where he's throwing cash anywhere.  Our first season up in the Championship we basically had a mid table League 1 team and he turned them into world beaters. I thought he'd have been an excellent appointment for you guys, he'll have learned a lot from his brief time at St Mirren and over in Norway.

Murray himself would have been expensive, though.

There is probably a world of difference between the peanuts Dumbarton can pay to the peanuts Rovers can pay. I think we're back to the £65 a week days. I was hoping for Ian Murray others were hoping for Peter Houston or Jim Duffy. Either way it looks as if this was all pie in the sky.

The key word for Rovers this year is  "stability" i.e. avoiding 10th spot.

I agree, yes.

It's all relative though.  Murray was offering up contracts of £150-200 to part time players and having them compete against full time players earning 3 times that amount.  I don't see why he couldn't build a similarly well organised side at a lower level. Agree though that it looks like the Rovers budget wouldn't stretch near Murray.  Hope it works out for you boys.

Apparently you face sanctions as Brogan doesn't possess the qualifications required to manage at this level.

Absolute shambles , who appoints a manager without the required qualifications, could understand if a young ex player going through badges as imagine would get exemptions, but someone near retirement.

Surely there will be a club statement confirming this isnt the case as any sanctions will hit Rovers hard.

The revenue that the Linfield game would have generated could have been the difference between being able to sign an experienced goalkeeper which would have kept them in league 1.

from da web...  "The club would like to point out that we checked the situation regarding the manager with the SFA prior to confirming John Brogan’s appointment and there is no barrier to John taking up the post of manager. John will be undertaking any required updates to his coaching certificates in due course and in a timescale agreed with the SFA. John is a very experienced manager and coach who is looking forward to getting started to putting a squad together for next season.

Ronnie Boyd
Chairman"

That must be a relief.

Still a questionable appointment. The qualifications are there for a reason, and if papers are to be believed then amazed he’s got the job ahead of some of the names mentioned.

Time will tell, however people in  the  juniors are in shock at this to say the least.

And at the bottom (District League) level of the Juniors. You could understand it if he was the manager of say, Auchinleck Talbot, but Wishaw??? Sounds as though Rovers are completely skint (were they ever anything else?) Anyway Rovers are punching way above they're level, so what's the problem.

Surely the problem is that they’ve appointed someone who doesn’t have the qualifications for the job, does that not tell you something about the board.

They’ve now had to get him to start coaching badges at the ripe old age of 64-65? It’s bonkers.

Theyre already talking budget cuts in the advertiser so have they clarified who’s paying for badges? Is it coming out of playing budget as the club have made a boob?

They advertised the job on twitter without a mention of licence requirement. They’ve either made a cock-up of advert or they already had him in mind.

Hope he does well but fear it could be disastrous.

Rovers can’t afford to go down to Lowland league which is a real possibility

Wouldn't worry about the LL as long as Cowdenbeath are around. That ain't a dig at Cowdenbeath btw. Teams are coming out the like of the LL and HL scoring the likes of a 130 goals in a season against teams who'd have problems in a Sunday morning league. They then play a senior team and its goodnight. Only ES have dropped down. Enough said.
