Progrès Niederkorn - Let's All Laugh Now

Recommended Posts

Niederkorn has a population of about 1800. I was going to post this is only 100 more than Invergowrie but that's a bit niche and many of you won't be able to picture it. Where near you has a population similar to Niederkorn so everyone in Scotland can get a good feel as to how pathetic this is?

 killearn

Strathblane

Moffat

Balfron

Howood

Kirkconnel

Thornhill

All around approx 1700 to 2000 mark.

Patna, East Ayrshire.  Not the large Indian city, but named after it. A population of 2089, so it dwarves Niederkorn.

Wikipedia tells us that:

" Patna has a small library, a games hall, a doctor's surgery, some shops, a cake shop, a football field, access to numerous country walks, an orange lodge and a golf club. "

an orange lodge

Spoiler

Portsoy - 1,734

Balmedie - 1,653

Cruden Bay - 1,670

Inverbervie - 1,980

Alford - 1,925

Insch - 2,282

Cruden Bay aside, none of these bother to have a junior side, even in the northern setup. Insch have an amateur team that share a league with Halliburton (yes, the oil service company). Balmedie FC are a tier below that alongside Jesus House FC and Highland Hotel AFC. Bervie Caley were quite successful last season though, finishing four places above ITC Hydraulics FC.

On bbc sport it was reported as they had only scored one goal in Europe before playing sevco

QoS had double that, Gretna triple. Unfortunately for you, Dumfries & Galloway's finest now lag behind an obscure pub outfit from a place that's half the size of Kirkcudbright.

Fun fact: Gretna has 1000 more residents than Niederkorn.

Jesus House FC is a fucking marvellous name.

That's what the Church of Scotland should call themselves, to try and entice folk back in the 21st century.

I almost feel sorry for Niederkorn supporters - they probably think they've knocked out a respectable side with solid European experience.
