Let There Be Light(s)

East Lothian Council has announced they will assist Haddington, Musselburgh and Tranent with installing floodlights.

So this means that among LL, EOS Premier and the top halves of EOS First Division conferences, the only clubs without lights nor formally announced schemes for them - from what I've seen - are:
* Vale of Leithen
* Crossgates Primrose
* Kinnoull, Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts, Glenrothes

Indeed if all these schemes came to fruition the only other clubs without lighting would be St Andrews (who have been mentioned), Oakley, Ormiston, Peebles, Craigroyston, Tweedmouth and Arniston.

Ormiston must feel a bit left out after all the hard work they have put in

Unfortunately Ormiston have the same dog walking brigade who “have” to walk their dog in the park. By enclosing the ground this takes away their only available area - apparently the great variety of walks locally aren’t near enough for them.

And that’s before they’re even told about floodlights - I hate to think what they’re reaction to that would be.

My understanding was there was going to be a gate put up and be closed when a games on n opened back up. Think the council has gaun back on its word about replacing the stand they lost also

Floodlights(?)

  1. Bo'ness United
  2. Camelon Juniors
  3. Dalkeith Thistle
  4. Dunipace
  5. Dunbar United
  6. Newtongrange Star
  7. Tranent Juniors

Floodlight Fundraising

  1. Edinburgh United
  2. Haddington Athletic
  3. Musselburgh Athletic
  4. St Andrews United

That's roughly the list of clubs that are known to be in the licencing application process at the minute.

And yes its all very lopsided to the East of Scotland these days.

Outside the Lowland League all you have is Threave Rovers, St Cuthbert Wanderers, Wigtown & Bladnoch, Newton Stewart, Glasgow University and Girvan. A grand total of 6 with only 4 in the pyramid. Girvan also have concerns of not having floodlights which might apply to a couple in the SOS.

Edit: Current list of licensed clubd

Yeah, Wigtown at the very least don't have lights, and I'm not sure they'd be in a place to get them installed

Well well, what do we have here: https://eaccess.dumgal.gov.uk/online-applications/caseDetails.do?caseType=Application&keyVal=PWL8DNGBJVZ00

Hadn't thought about checking Wigtown until now. Looks like they've used the same agent as many other east clubs, with the supporting statement saying "the club have recently been promoted to the Lowlands league of Scotland Football League." - not that the council have noticed. :lol: Permission granted in December though, so they might yet have a chance of keeping their licence.

Girvan haven't applied for planning permission.

Of course obtaining permission doesn't necessarily mean all have raised the cash. Also remains to be seen what happens if a club fail to comply on time... Cove + Vale did but remained in HL + LL/St Cuthbert + Newton Stewart (for 2yrs IIRC) did but remained in Scottish Cup/Wigtown withdrew > returned/etc.

Creetown also have planning permission for floodlights and have a newish pavilion, enclosed ground and compliant cover.

Mid Annandale also hoping to get a stand and new facilities but seems to be slower progress

Impressive work there and Lochmaben.

Presumably they'd need bigger cover as doubt 100 can watch from this (20 per bay?!)...

Delighted to hear that Scottish Borders Council are financially supporting our floodlight project. This is a significant step in securing our future as a licenced club. Our planning application was submitted before Christmas, and a planning committee date will be announced soon
