First place I worked you paid £2 a month tea money. When I realised it was optional I jacked it. 2000 workers paying 50k a year!!

Seems a good deal to be honest.

Unless you don’t drink tea.

Depends how long ago it was, but you're getting 60 cups of tea for £2.00/month, seems o.k.

(3 cups/day x 5 days/week x 4weeks/month in case IainMorton is lurking...)

Working in an office sounds fucking awful.

It had its moments, but I can't say I miss it. Preferable to getting soaked/frozen on a building site or shipyard IMHO.

I'm having a pleasant mental image of some of the dickheads who've been described here, trying to pull the same sort of shite on a building site. Five minutes in and they'd be headfirst in the cement mixer.

Am I missing something here? Obviously you get absolute bangers and petty squabbling in an office, but it's not like you get them elsewhere. Working in an office, I sit in a comfy seat in a warm / cool and safe environment , listen to tunes and do work stuff that doesn't tax the mind or body too much. And if it does get too much, I can sit and have a wee read of the internet or watch a funny Youtube video. Most of the folk in work are my friends so you can have a laugh as well. Oh, and as much free tea and coffee as you want. Lovely stuff.

I have worked in the same industry since leaving school at 16. In that time I have spent 1 year in the office. It was a fucking harrowing experience despite being surrounded by like minded people, merely seconded to an office enviroment for a short duration. 9 to 5, 5 days a week in an office is an atrocious existence.

I think office work is great. I’m a lazy b*****d so the thought of doing anything other than sitting at a desk for seven hours a day looking at a screen gives me the fear. Manual work can GTF.

Just out of idle interest what sort of things do you non office guys do?

My work is probably 80/20 office/elsewhere and I do find it a pain sometimes but on the whole it is OK as long as you ignore politics.
I currently sit on my arse, basically chained to a desk for 12 hours at a time staring at screens.

Now to sound like a horrible misogynist, but my experience with women bosses has been shite. Both micromanaging, nitpicking, condescending pains. Hoping it's not three strikes and I'm out to incel forum to live out my days.

Also, how the feck can't folk just get on at work. You're paid a measly pittince to work. Just smile, say some banal polite stuff and get along with each other even if you have nothing in common.

Then go home and relax.

I’m not really seeing how this is different to an office based role? Sounds very similar.

On the office vs non-office debate, I definitely prefer being management and sitting on my arse dealing with the mentally difficult/stressful side of things as opposed to the physically demanding day to day stuff. One of the engineers was off a while ago so helped out as it was busy. It was mind-numbing stuff.

Yeah but what do you do when you're at work?

He tests chains.
