Probably will be the case, I’ll either say I can’t manage completely or say I can head to the first place but a pals coming round later on so I can’t head in to town.
It’s enjoyable seeing DA get so angry over it. I mean if he sends me his email address I’ll forward him the invite..?

You mug.

I've said plenty of times to colleagues thar I don't fancy a night out. Never made some lame excuse up or worse, wasted my own time going to part of it.

I've been on plenty as well. If I fancy it I'll go; if not I won't. It's really simple and plenty of others at work are the same. None us think anyone is being a c**t and so ostracize them if they don't fancy it.

You really are coming across quite angry about this, is everything okay? I’m honestly not bothered if my colleagues think less of me if I don’t go and I don’t really think they would. I probably will go for a bit though just because I think I should - we all moan works shit so it seems hypocritical, to me, not to try and socialise and “improve the mood in camp” if you will.
I’m very sorry this seems to have annoyed you.

Read your posts back, you do come across angry about it.
Still though, I’m glad I got the consensus of pie and bovril...f**k it off if you don’t want to go. Still no good excuses for me to use though?

My current thoughts. I usually always go to nights out and that. Can’t moan that morale is shite etc. then patch any attempt to improve it but I’m really scunnered with work the now in general and just can’t be fucked with it.
I could go to the first pub then home when they head in to town but chances of that happening are slim, bevy’s in, taxis here etc etc

Ffs man! You’re missing the most important factor.
Is Tennents served in said shite pub?

Yes - Go
No- Patch it

In the bad old days we would receive an office memo with a list of names which you would sign against your own and then pass round the office.

Our then manager would take glee in pointing out that you had read the memo and get on with the changes he wanted implemented.

After a month or so of this I decided just to keep hold of them, by the time the old c**t had left they had filled a drawer in my desk.

I work in an office, if something is important enough that the boss needs confirmation we know about it then he just holds a 30 minute meeting.

It’s crossed my mind already and I’m unsure unfortunately. There’s not a drinks menu online for the place.

I am equally adept at being absent at these type of events.

Go, if no Tennents on tap, throw a massive strop, tell all your workmates they are arsehiles for even considering drinking in such an uncouth watering hole, turn on your heels & leave.

I actually have the opposite problem from you, work has arranged an all expenses paid evening brunch in a swanky hotel on Thursday evening, free drink all night, great food etc. There’s even a couple of strong 9.5’s in my office who are going. But because I’ve got an early flight on Friday morning, I’ll probably only manage for a couple of hours, therefore negating the chances of the wids looking anywhere near me.

You go to my thing, I’ll go to yours?

No chance at mine unfortunately.

Unfortunately I will need to my withdraw my offer of attendance.
Definitely worth an early flight to get back in the arms of the beautiful T by early afternoon.

I've kind of got the feeling that someone at my work is following my comments on here so haven't updated this in a while.  I don't really have anything to add except for the below made up hypothetical story:

Hypothetically it would be really difficult if your new manager was a bit of shitebag and hypothetically didn't want to give people required feedback.  It would also be a bit shit if hypothetically you had a girl in your small team of 5 looking after about 50 other people and, hypothetically, she only worked 2 days a week and treated these two days as socialising time.

Hypothetically you could've made your boss aware of this a few times and expected him, hypothetically, to deal with it.  However he could well be, if a true story, a shitebag as previously mentioned and would rather have a team away day (which is absolute corporate speak bullshit, unless we are going go-karting in which case I am in) with an expectation that you, and the other 3 people in this team of 5, will put all your feelings on the table and deliver this feedback directly to the lady who, hypothetically, is a lazy b*****d.  Hypothetically your boss would then become the good cop and try to support the person moving forward.

Office politics eh.

Is a hypothetical boot in the pie required?

Is this why you've been unhappy with Supras Peppino Impastato recently?
