Drew Brees
And it begins Giorgos Giakoumakis is poised for a shock Celtic exit in January. The Scottish champions have been unable to reach an agreement over an improved contract with the striker. Talks have been on-going but unless there is a significant change of heart on either side then a suitable compromise is unlikely to be reached. Celtic are also in a similar position with Croatia’s World Cup star Josip Juranovic and are ready to cash in. There is already strong European interest in Greek international Giakoumakis, who still has a contract until 2026. However, he is unhappy a new deal can’t be agreed. The frontman dropped his wage demands significantly to make the move from VVV-Venlo last year but it was on the understanding his terms would be improved if he had a successful first season in Scottish football. Celtic have offered a pay rise but it is still significantly short of where the 27-year-old feels his salary should be. He made a slow start to life at Celtic because of Covid and fitness issues but finished the season impressively with 17 goals to help the Hoops seal a dream double. Giakoumakis’ return of 13 strikes from 21 Premiership games was the division’s joint highest. He has already hit eight goals this season but Japanese star Kyogo Furuhashi remains Ange Postecoglou ’s main striker with Giakoumakis making 14 of his 21 league and cup appearances from the bench. Postecoglou has already made it clear that if players are not happy at Celtic then he will not stand in his way. The Celtic recruitment team are already actively looking at a possible centre forward for the January window. They are also likely to sell Juranovic and have already all but lined up a replacement in Canada’s World Cup defender Alastair Johnston from Montreal Impact. Drew Brees
CELTIC have joined the race to land South Korea World Cup sensation Cho Gue-sung. The Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker grabbed a stunning headed double against Ghana on Monday. SunSport understands Celtic are one of several European clubs keen to land the 24-year-old in January. Cho is well known to Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou, having scored against his Yokohama F Marinos team in the Asian Champions League in February 2020. The 6ft 2in striker went into the Qatar World Cup off the back of an impressive season in Korea. He scored 21 goals in 35 games in all competitions for Jeonbuk and army team Gimcheon Sangmu. Cho had moved there on loan to complete his mandatory military service before returning to his parent club for the second half of the campaign. He continued to hit the goal trail for Jeonbuk - and grabbed three in a two-legged Korean Cup final win over FC Seoul. Cho now has six strikes in 18 caps for South Korea and is in line to start against Portugal on Friday after his Ghana exploits. South Korea FA vice-president Lee Young-pyo yesterday confirmed there is major interest in him from Europe.

Was a bit gutted to hear this but at the end of the day he’s 28 and we have him on a long deal anyway so selling now would probs be the best chance of getting decent cash for him, he’s also a tad injury prone. Having said that GG does offer us something different which I think would be hard to replace. Maybe we would’ve met his improved wage demands if he managed to take some of the several decent chances that fell his way in the CL. Hi, Southampton, it’s Celtic here……. "Ange" away to the EPL, John Kennedy in charge, more signings like James McCarthy.
