Celtic’s run in 1966-67:-

1R  Zurich (5-0 aggregate)

2R  Nantes (6-2 aggregate)

QF  Vojvodina (2-1 aggregate)

SF  Dukla Prague (3-1 aggregate)

F  Internazionale (2-1)

There were 4 or 5 decent sides in the tournament. The rest were fucking horseshit.  The first round saw aggregate scores of 12-1, 8-4, 10-1 and even Linfield winning 9-4.  Linfield went onto make the quarter finals ffs!!

Hibs made the semi-finals in 1956, Rangers in 1960 and Dundee in 1963. Under the same format, Dundee United reached the semi finals in 1984, and in the 7 years after winning it, Celtic reached another final and the semi finals twice.

In the 15 seasons immediately after Celtic won it, British (predominantly English) sides were in the final 9 times, winning 7.

Its a great story;  being the first British side to win it, but as a footballing achievement it is overrated to f**k.

Jinky's struggling here. Here's hoping someone brings up the schools.

Indeed I do struggle when I come face to face with such dumbfuckery.

St Johnstone is clearly a greater achievement, relatively speaking.

Deep down I think you know it’s true, and pretending to laugh it off is fooling nobody.

The absolute emperor’s clothes of Scottish football that the media are too afraid to call out cos of the likely backlash from the brainwashed.

If we’re talking purely in European terms, Nottingham Forest’s consecutive wins in the 1970’s probably takes it in terms of British achievement, Aberdeen cup winners cup for Scottish. Celtic making the uefa cup final in 2003 was a harder accomplishment than the 1967 win.

St Johnstone overcoming the mammoth financial disparity to win two major honours in a single season in the modern era dwarfs Celtic’s European cup win. If Celtic hadn’t won the European cup that year, they or some other British club would have done so within the next 5 years anyway.

No other non-OF club will ever win two major honours in a single Scottish football season again in the modern era due to the financial advantage held by the OF.

I’m laughing as it’s funny as here we are in a discussion/debate about a vote on the greatest club side to ever exist (which Celtic seem to have won), you seem to have somehow thrown St Johnstone 20/21 into the mix.

If any club Celtic beat to the trophy were spending more on wages for one player than their entire squad, then they'd have half an argument it was a better achievement than our double.

Obviously as all objective followers of football will concur the real object of hilarity is the idea that Glasgow Celtic are the greatest club/team to ever have existed. A thousand polls could tell us they are and it still wouldn't be true. Now I won't muddy the waters with the St Johnstone claim but it's as clear as the nose on Tommy Gemmell's face that Nottingham Forest's 77-80 run of promotion, English champions & successive European champions dwarfs anything Celtic have ever achieved.l

No we weren’t. You might be discussing  a poll by the bbc in which more Celtic fans voted than anyone else, but I was commenting on the video a page or two back of Alex Ferguson humouring Celtic fans at a Celtic event by saying winning the European cup was the greatest achievement in British football.

Think @kennie makevin is right to highlight Nottingham Forest’s rise from flirting with relegation from tier 2 to league Champions, double league cup winners and double European cup winners in the space of 3 years. For all the talk of Pep, Jurgen and Ancelotti as the best ever,  Brian Clough has to be in the conversation.

I honestly think Sir Alex knows lots more about football than you do. Wouldn’t you agree?

Alex Ferguson claimed Phil Jones would be Man Us greatest ever player, he got things wrong.

Paulo from Perth would get more wrong in my humble opinion.

That doesn't mean Ferguson was right, though.
