The Celtic All Seasons thread

Recommended Posts

Hello Celtic fans.

It seems we’re about to sign Wallace Duffy, a 20 year old you guys released at the end of the season. I appreciate he hasn’t played any first team games but have any of you seen him play for your u20s/reserves?

Because Norwich respected, and valued, him enough to pay him a wage he asked for, while Celtic low balled him, tried to heap pressure on him via twitter, then had their captain mewling in the press about him being a shitebag if he doesn't just accept what they want to give him?

Dignity can count for a lot in football.

Using words like respect and dignity is fecking embarrassing, first all we heard about was Turnbull wanted first team football.
Now your saying Celtic should've broke their wage structure for a one season wonder.
Lets hope he has a fruitful career and proves Celtic wrong.

You're right in saying Celtic had every right to make him an offer they saw relative to his value, but by the same token he has every right to turn down said offer if he feels it isn't good enough. Celtic going public via social media was somewhat undignified and unnecessary.

Celtic clearly haven't learned from the McGinn affair last year, where their beef was with Hibs valuation as opposed to the players.

I agree - but it was useful in that seemingly, a large percentage of Celtic fans have (whether they agree with their club's approach or not) swallowed the line that this is all about wages (as opposed to the simple answer that he views heading to the top level down south as a better career opportunity).

Not all. The Celtic assistant manager is in the media today calling Turnbull unambitious and claiming hes "all about money" today.

That's classless and undignified from a paid member of staff, and while it keeps fans on side, players will see that's how they act and not want their name dragged through the gutter if they aren't able to find an agreement on wages.

Is that a direct quote from him or is another one of your Fables?

He's not expecting them to break their wage structure. If anything he wants paid in line with the wage structure. He thinks he is good enough to be a regular starter and wanted the wage of a regular starter.

It's not difficult to comprehend Willi, unless you're a Celtic fan it seems.

Kennedy's direct comments to be fair are more nuanced than that  (although the inference  is very clear) - and the article itself (in the record) uses terms like "money grabber" and it refers to Turnbull being driven by cash and not "hunger". Those (fairly objectionable) lines either come from Kennedy/Celtic PR or from the hack himself - but in any case are a mile out.

Summer 2018: Celtic fans - Who do Hibs think they are demanding £5m for John McGinn........McGinn joins Aston Villa for £5m.

Summer 2019: Celtic fans - Who does David Turnbull think he is turning down our offer........ Turnbull agrees better terms with Norwich City.

To quote Shirley Basset, it's all just a little bit of history repeating!

If the quotes I read are accurate he does infer that he's chosen money over development.

"“What we want is for players to be hungry and we also want them to come here for the right reasons, not just financially. For a 19-year-old coming from Motherwell who has played pretty much one season, the offer we made was very good. The reality is that if players come here and do well, they will be rewarded long term as the years progress. It all comes down to a player’s idea of what he wants and the representative who is advising him in that respect. If you do well at this club, the world is your oyster and that’s what we wanted to give him, but they chose not to take our offer."

So if he does well at Norwich then no one will care? If only somebody had advised James Maddison that would be the case, he must be kicking himself.

My post about a week and a half ago said Celtic would consider putting him out on loan to Aberdeen with Shinnie gone.
If Norwich send him back to motherwell on loan his demands don't match the level he is at in his career.
This is not disrespectful or lacking dignity as @RandomGuy.  is suggesting it's giving him a platform to improve his talent.
You have got to earn a wage not just hand it on a plate.

Can someone tell Marvin Compper that.

As I've said before Celtic have done fine without McGinn winning a treble treble.
Celtic have a limit just like any other club breaking the Scottish transfer record between two clubs in Scotland wasn't on for McGinn.
Maybe it will be for McKenna.
As far as doing deals in public it's not Lawwell's style but motherwell are a fan owned club and keep them informed Celtic just did the same.
