The Celtic All Seasons thread

Recommended Posts

My guess is Gordon Strachan was lined up at the end of last season to take the Director of Football role but McKay was against it.

Strachan brought in anyway as an ‘advisor’ which may be set to become full time Director of Football.

Add to that the fact that Ange was supposedly chosen by McKay with the 2 being close allies yet Ange wasn’t able to choose his own back room staff and got teamed up with John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan then it could possibly be why McKay left?…

A recording doing the rounds of Charlie Mulgrew talking about McKay.

Not sure how reliably informed he is but basically saying McKay was punted because he had a disagreement with Bankier and the Celtic board. McKay wanted more signings in, but Bankier said they’d spent enough in one window. This was during the Juranovic discussions and the deal was going to get dropped.

McKay apparently went ahead with the deal anyway without telling Bankier. Bankier went tonto and informed Desmond who in turn, invited McKay to a meeting in London where he made it clear he answers to Bankier and Bankier answers to Desmond. Apparently at this point McKay said he’d had enough and told them to eff the job.

sounds feasible, the statement talking about this interim ceo being a team player was a bit strange, it came across as the board trying to start their narrative of what happened

It give creditable to the story that we Yan Couto on loan from Man City was our preferred option over signing Juranovic on a perm

The Athletic on McKay exit

The exact reason for McKay's departure is unclear.

The Athletic understands McKay faced a host of internal challenges at the club, including differences of opinion on how to move Celtic forward, and what he perceived as an undermining of his authority.

McKay was peripheral to Howe talks, but took an active role in appointing Ange.

Celtic had been close to appointing City's football partnerships and pathways manager Fergal Harkin as sporting director in February, but pulled the plug. McKay wanted to revive such a model, and made appointing a sporting director one of his first objectives.

Disagreement over a new Sporting Director became a source of tension. Some of Celtic's board members were not ready for a change of structure.

McKay may have felt that Strachan's appointment undermined his authority. A counter point to this, a bother source claims that McKay was unimpressive in his short stint.

Sources external to Celtic have said that they were confused on who to contact at the club in regards to transfers.

McKay, Desmond, Desmond’s son Ross, Lawwell, Michael Nicholson and the club’s head of scouting operations, Jay Lefevre, were all involved in co-ordinating transfers.

One source described Celtic as painfully slow, with several mentioning that it took days and even weeks to get a reply.

More then one target was missed out on due to the sloppy transfer process.

Only Kyogo and Juranovic are players that were specifically requested by Ange.

Some sources say McKay was too passive in his dealings, while others say that the lack of a hierarchy was responsible.

The board did not want to concede day-to-day input, and McKay felt he was not given the power to modernise the club  according to his vision.

McKay sought to improve the clubs PR and communication. He hired a company that specialises in behind the scenes content, and he wanted to build relationships with Celtic Fan Media.

Michael Nicholson, McKay's replacement for the foreseeable future, can be described as the "Board's Man". He is well regarded and well liked by the board, and he shares a close relationship with Peter Lawwell.

If its not personal reason. I tend to believe Mckay is in the right here on this (maybe not right to resign though), the fact the board seem to be implying transfers were painfully slow and Mckay was too passive in his dealings when we know Celtic have been painfully slow in every transfer window previously suggests a brass neck of epic levels by the board that we would believe that.

I cant say im right but just weighing it all up id go with Mckay being hindered in multiple ways by board because he wanted to make more transfers than they did and he wanted a different set up from them. Which then begs the question what sort of due diligence and discussions they had with him that this was a surprise.

I think they have got so set in their ways that its such an old boys network now that hiring someone who actually stood up for what they wanted was too much.

Whats Dermots son doing even working at club? Was it Lawells son that was the agent Celtic kept using in recent years too? We have Strachan and his son there.

Some disturbing/tragic rumours going around about Ciaran Dickson on Twitter right now that he has apparently killed an 18 year old whilst drink driving at the weekend.

I’ve no idea how accurate or not the rumours are but seems to be getting quite a bit of traction but I’d always take these things with a pinch of salt until anything concrete comes out.

There have been rumours doing the rounds for months that the boy was a total roaster, previous for drink driving and a fondness for “a pinch of salt” at the weekend. Gerrard had had enough of him being a stupid wee fanny and emptied him.

Had heard the rumour and did think it was unlikely to have been completely made up given how obscure a player he is.

The footballing side of it is of zero relevance just now but the chat does seem to be that he had a fairly well known reputation for being a complete banger,  which you'd surely imagine folk at Celtic were aware of. Those discussions can wait though, an absolutely tragic situation and just horrible for the lad's family.
