"Getting too dangerous".

http://valeofleithen.co.uk/uncategorized/vale-of-leithen-1-tynecastle-1-abandoned-at-half-time/

The pitch was passed as playable at 1230.

The surface was heavy due to the melting of the frost from the previous day.

There was a minute’s silence in respect to Rev Frank Campbell who died recently. Frank was a well known match official in the Lowland League.

The game got off to a flyer with the Vale scoring in the first minute. After a move down the right the cross into the box caused a bit of confusion in the Tynecastle defence and was prodded home by  Dachi Knutsishvili.

The game was getting played at a frantic pace with both teams trying to play football, making it very good entertainment for the spectators, which included a good support for Tynecastle, which included Lee Wallace and Scott Crabbe.

In the 12 minute Tynecastle were awarded a free kick to the right of the Vale goal. Whilst this was being disputed by the Vale players, the free kick was quickly taken and passed to the wing where the resultant cross in the Vale box was driven home by Stewart Adams.

Despite the heavy going the game was turning into an excellent match with both sides creating chances and only some solid defending  by both teams stopping any further scoring.

After raising concerns with both managers on the 30 minute mark about the pitch, the referee accessed the pitch at half time and decided it was getting too dangerous and subsequently abandoned the game, much to the disappoint of spectators.

It's unlike the Juniors where cup-ties get priority, and can sometimes run a coach-&-horses through everything ahead of the date of the next round... In 2014-15 there were actually 2x R2 ties plus 1x QF on what was ostensibly SF day (Jan 24th). In 2015-16 it was infact all 4x QFs (Jan 23rd). Last season there was 1x SF plus 1x QF (Jan 21st).

Having been off twice, it may now be Gretna v Peebles, tbf.

Given that Vale don't have floodlights, ties can't displace LL games and it's only been off once, logic would indicate it's impossible for LTHV to have their SF on Jan 20th unless (1) Vale give-up home advantage + it's arranged for midweek + it's scheduled for the early part of January [+ Saughton is playable!] or (2) both agree a neutral venue + arrange for midweek + early part of Jan.

According to EOS website home advantage has switched to Gretna, and remaining R2 tie Gretna 2008 v Peebles Rovers will be played on Wednesday 10th January.

Meanwhile the 3 outstanding QF ties... Vale v Tynecastle, East Kilbride v Civil Service Strollers and Gretna/Peebles v Spartans... are scheduled for Saturday 20th January.

Both teams are not giving up home advantage, the Vale are only moving it to Spartans due to their home park being unplayable and the selecting of an artificial surface to try and ensure the game goes ahead to try and reduce the backlog of Vale fixtures.

Hopefully this explains the situation, and if the game is as entertaining as the previously abandoned game it should be cracker.

So if you have a free Saturday get along to Ainslie Park.

But we won’t have the Vale Ultras  behind us lol

To be honest we actually tend to play better on the artificial surface, especially in the winter as Victoria Park doesn’t drain well in wet weather.

Vale and Tynecastle both try and play passing football and it should be a good game for the spectators.

So yer giving up home advantage then.

By my reckoning Vale will become the  sixth team to play a home EoS, LL or  cup game at Ainslie Park. They will join Spartans, Edinburgh  City, LTHV, Leith Ath and Stirling Uni. Perhaps HibbeeJibbee can confirm.

Aye a well used facility:) and of course also Hibs U20 for a spell.

Spartans obviously.

Not sure about Edinburgh City - won't this season's EOS Cup SF be their first of that category? Maybe forgotten something.

BSC Glasgow v Stirling Uni (in somewhat farcical circumstances without fans permitted) and Stirling Uni v Dalbeattie in LL.

LTHV v Hunty and Leith v Coldstream and Cumbernauld in the Scottish Cup. Leith also used the backpitch temporarily between Muirhouse and Meadowbank 3G.

= 5

It's also hosted EOS Qualifying Cup Final 2011-12 (Edinburgh City-Whitehill); and Alex Jack Cup Final 2012-13 (Craigroston v Leith).
