Junior football, what is the future?

Whilst recognising this debate isn’t really junior related, i will comment.

Given the spfl has come to agreement with their commercial/tv partners with regards to their inability to complete their obligations, you would hope an agreement could be made with HL/LL on this.  IMO play-offs are too impractical at this stage but a fair compromise  that instead of having a play-off in 19/20 and another in 20/21(which is currently about 0.5 chance of promotion each season for the HL/LL winners) and instead change that to automatic promotion/relegation for 20/21.

Congratulations !

One club approved. Five more club decisions to be announced.

Six have been announced now: Camelon, Bo'ness, Tranent, Haddington, Dunipace & Newtongrange.

Fair play to Dunipace.

That's some turnaround from the arse end of Division 2 in the Central League to the big Scottish Cup.

The old West Region redneck gang must be seething.

Why seething ?

Totally bamboozled with that unless its aimed at certain individuals that I don't know about

Dunipace made it clear in the past that they wanted to progress and have continued to do so.
Every team should welcome another team getting licensed and know its there for them to do the same if they so wish

Stood at meeting at Hampden and asked what happened in regards to Dunipace leaving the West Juniors.

One of the top table grunted.

I thought, what a gang of old rednecks. They couldn't even bring themselves to wish Dunipace well. Spiteful old Bazzas.

Now that the pyramids are almost built, really can't see why any club wouldn't want to progress upwards. Build up the youth section, do the grounds up, attract new fans possibly, just give clubs a chance eh. All the clubs still exist despite leaving the historic juniors, let's get behind them.

Shout out to Bo'ness Utd on heading for the Lowland League. Bet that was quietly noted down in South East Ayrshire.

That'll be the third ex Junior team to enter the LL. By 2030 the LL will be an ex Junior playground.

The north region could be in the pyramid as soon as next season according to info posted on Fitba North by an NCL official:

Has the NCL joining the pyramid at tier 6 been signed off on yet, or is that all on the back burner till we're back to normal?

The three associations, i.e. SHFL, NCFA and NRJFA, are currently reviewing a draft set of rules. It is still the aim of the working group to have it in place for 2020-21. Fingers crossed all goes to plan!

I'm pretty certain that this couldn't happen for 2020-21. The WoSFL had to have all of its rules and structure approved several weeks ago to enable it to go to the SFA AGM for ratification. If the HL/NCL/NRSJFA are still in discussions, then surely it would have to be 2021-22 ?

It's a league officeholder that posted this. Think the difference is that the HL have never had any issues with having an SJFA region as a feeder unlike what has happened with the LL, so there is no need for the SFA to approve a new senior league.
Good point. [emoji106]

Sounds logical but I wonder why the North Juniors would hold back from switching to Senior status.

Also this seems to have been under peaceful, constructive, discussion since last autumn or so, meaning that there has been plenty of time to sort out everything that's needed for a departure from the Juniors. Would the majority of North Region clubs hold back the few of their clubs which may wish to go Senior?

They're not holding anyone back. There isn't the same conflict in the North that there is in the South.

Junior Cup has already been amended to fit within the Senior calendar. There's no cup competition like the South Challenge Cup that requires their participation. They'd gain access to SFA licencing to make this work.

Majority of North Juniors would probably roll out the red carpet for Banks O'Dee to get them into the Highland League, so they stop hoovering up titles.

The issue isn't from the North Region. It would have been a Highland League side(s) not wanting to get relegated into a Junior League that could have been the problem. That doesn't seem to be the case though. Of the 17 in the league 4 came from the Juniors (Inverurie, Strathspey, Formartine, and Turriff). So maybe that's why they're not that bothered by it.
