Junior football, what is the future?

Kelty and Brora not getting a shot at SPFL entry will not be good for the pyramid if/when it happens. What the whole reconstruction debacle shows is that the chances of ever changing the Club 42 playoff format to something more progressive are somewhere between exceedingly slim and none. Having a pyramid is better than not having a pyramid, but it's myopic in the extreme to pretend that there aren't severe flaws with the one we now have.

Their was severe flaws with the grade aswell

Course they aren't two teams didn't deserve to go up .
The club 42 structure wont change unless colts get in , the playoff at the bottom of league two wasn't for changing pre pandemic zero chance post pandemic that in turn gives justification to the lowland to keep it at one ensuring its full of mostly boys clubs,  university teams and poor ex east clubs for the next decade.
Finances now severely impacted will result in less license memberships,  associate memberships without any proper voice or vote at best, less scottish cup money it was a pittance anyway and even more protectionism in the senior leagues if that was possible.
Meanwhile in the real world away from the non league geeks on here the majority normal junior supporters who have been railroaded into this structure and system are left bemused empty and wondering what the hell is going on.
The junior grade with change at the top and proper leadership could have moved with the times and been an excellent option for those who wanted to get away from the horrific senior game instead most clubs were forced into joining
It makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time.
The glass ceiling log jam will continue to get worse and the only the viable option for football fans of an all scottish encompassing alternative grade no longer an option for those who appreciated having an alternative to the laughing stock of european football that is scottish senior football.

To be honest with you I think those running the West Region will be quite glad to have gotten into the pyramid when they did. It's meant they've been able to carry on largely unscathed and kept the goodwill that people have towards the Junior game.

The alternative probably would of split the West Region and seen a hard breakaway to create the WoSFL.

The East & North Regions were able to null and void with little fuss. There were promotion or relegation concerns in the East and no one in promotion spots in the North Region would challenge the decision.

In the West Region however, you had 18 promotion and relegation spots to decide. As well as the West Premiership title. With near enough half the Region tied into how that decision would go. It would likely have fractured the Region, with a number of clubs investigating a WoSFL possibility.

You may be right. But there was no "change at the top and proper leadership".  If anyone "forced" the clubs it was the existing, leaderhip, which by your own logic was inadequate.

But the poor leadership can't have been only at the top. If the clubs themselves had decent leadership they would have elected better league and JFA committees.

Correct.

The LL-WoSFL invited applications and then sat back and let teams decide without any influence.

The WRSJFA management, on the other hand, actively encouraged every club to apply to join the WoSFL, and many clubs felt they had no choice because of that influence.

Unfortunately the SPFL is off the hook in terms of the rules as written because they run the final set of games involving Club 42 and the Kelty Brora games organised by the SFA couldn't be played when the season ended as they are supposed to be.

If they can fit in Scottish Cup SFs and Final couldn’t they have managed closed door play off with Kelty and Brora then the Brechin match .......... just a thought

There is wording in the rules about the Kelty Brora games being held at the end of the preceding season, so it's difficult to justify doing it several months later if somebody, for the sake of the argument lets call them Brechin, wanted to get pedantic about it, unfortunately.

With the shambles almost complete now,and the SFA/SPFL  trying to create a 'closed shop' where are any guarantees that future LL/HL champions will get a chance to progress ? Obvious to include the bigger, better senior clubs into the spfl asap, try to inject some life into the stagnant mediocrity of spfl2.

Whilst I was very disappointed that the Highland v Lowland play-off didn't take place, the SPFL didn't approve any of its promotion/relegation play-offs  in the Championship, League One and League Two.

For better or worse, the SPFL was consistent on this occasion. Hence Brechin City were saved from participating in the club 42 play-off.

For what its worth, I would like to see an unofficial play-off between Brora & Kelty, immediately prior to next season, replacing a meaningless pre-season friendly.  It would be interesting to see their comparable strengths and weaknesses.  Someone might even sponsor this  HFL/SLL 'challenge' match (?).

The SFA should take Brechin's non appearance in their competition as a scratch and inform the SPFL they are now relegated, to be replaced in due course by Brora or Kelty.

Ah, thought not.

How can Brechin not appear in a match when they don't even know who their opponents are?

The Club 42 playoff will remain in place, but it's going to be very difficult to ever change that to an automatic relegation format because of the SPFL's voting rules.

Which means that any club in the LL/HLwill be up against a team in the play off with SPFL money behind them so unless you have a sponsor piling money into the club a la  Kelty they are always going to be at a financial disadvantage.

Thats as near a closed shop as you’re going to get.

which is exactly the scenario in every single inter-division play-off

The SPFL money doesn't help if you're rubbish. Berwick vs Cove anyone?
