New local derby for us then - unless they continue to play at Airdrie! I'd actually been given a heads up about this one happening a few weeks ago, but obviously it wasn't my place to say anything until the uni announced it themselves.

The GUFC Secretary confirmed (on the telephone) that I could post this confirmation. The University is effectively on lock down at the moment.

I'm on lockdown but I can still access the internet.  I'd be surprised if the University can't.

Sorry to hear about Bonnyton Thistle not applying.

Surprising, given their location..

Staff at the university are still working from home as normal, so that's not really the issue. I don't think the football club really has an active online presence at all - it can be a struggle to get a hold of line-ups for Scottish Cup matches, for example.

Also been told all 63 WRJFA clubs have applied, plus Drumchapel and Glasgow Uni.

Not clear about any SoS clubs. Bonnyton probably the only likely one but nothing official from them yet. One day left to apply.

That does depend on when the season can start, if there is a delayed start they might have to go for 5 conferences of 13 clubs each I guess. Especially as there are championship play-offs and promotion play-offs for the winner (if licensed, but they have to be taken into account) to schedule.

Correct.  GUFC are first and foremost a university, for academic purposes, also with a wide variety of sports in addition to football.  As such they don't have the need to liaise with their community.

Their players are almost entirely students, who in case anyone missed it, are not currently in residence.  Craigkillie is also right about their online activity, which is not frequently used for football news.

A week or so ago, I did give a clue on this forum, that the Uni was unlikely to risk losing its SFA membership & licence, by not playing in a pyramid league (in the event that the SFA rules may be changed in the near future, when/if club access to the pyramid, becomes nationwide).  '

Edinburgh University FC is also "first and foremost a university, for academic purposes, also with a wide variety of sports in addition to football", but they still manage to have a website.  https://euafc.com/

Nice to see my old alma mater is still ahead of its Glasgow rival .

I can't argue with that.

However, with a bit of luck, we could be drawn against each other next season, in one of the cup competitions. Are you as confident that you would also be "ahead" on the field of play ?   (If so, I might get my boots out of the attic, assuming my wife hasn't donated them to charity, some years ago).

I'd hope Glasgow Uni would have a bit more professional set up for their FC when they enter the pyramid. Edinburgh have a wee bit of a headstart on them in that regard

I support Ross County, Crystal Palace and Scotland. Confidence is not a concept I'm familiar with.

For the first year, so there is no uncertainty over dates, why not make it that teams can choose to either play in the Junior Cup OR the South Challenge Cup?
Then play both comps on the same dates.

The South Challenge Cup is compulsory for all clubs in the Lowland pyramid.
