Junior football, what is the future?

Consulting the fans is not necessarily a good thing if they have been lapping up the red top stories being printed on behalf of the SJFA in the last decade or so. How a wilful misinformation campaign is countered is anyone's guess though!

As I said in my post earlier that was pretty much what happened with us.

Just throwing this out there for discussion.

As expected we've seen Kelty jump ship, maybe one or two will follow in the next couple of seasons but I can’t see a trickle becoming a flood for various reasons, particularly in the West.

However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a significant percentage of clubs out there who would like to see a proper pyramid structure in place which wholly involves Junior clubs, and for these clubs to work towards gaining an SFA Licence and work their way up that structure, participating in the Scottish Cup.

Currently, the SJFA don’t appear willing to engage in serious discussions with the SFA, or even open a debate internally with members on this issue.

So what do Junior clubs do next? what is the long-term future of Junior football?  Do nothing and hope that we only lose a handful of clubs and carry on unchanged, or begin an honest and open discussion between member clubs about how to integrate with the pyramid.

These are serious questions that now need asked but I doubt we’ll hear much about it at the upcoming AGM, it’ll be more head in the sand stuff and no leadership.

As we are at 1000 pages now. I go back to Burniemans original post. On these points where are we now. This was at the beginning of 2017-2018 season.-

- The Trickle did become a flood but not from the west.

- The clubs wanted a pyramid stucture

- SJFA did their best to muddy the waters to keep themselves alive.

- Bottom part looks like your statement of do nothing and hope they only lose a handful of clubs is looking likely.

He wrote "preferably" rather than "but only", so the key thing for people to grasp now is that there is zero chance of it happening within the juniors. Option Z was the last chance saloon on the SJFA entering intact, but it was rejected by the Lowland League who would have needed to be in favour for it to work. The SFA closed down the PWG after the SJFA refused to consider the west region only option instead. That led to an impasse that could not possibly be resolved if the SJFA remained part of the process.

{anyone droning on incoherently about blame in response to this will be ignored}

You seem to forget to mention alot the sjfa refusal to compromise to get the west region in for next season 🤔

Or there willingness to compromise when it suits them ie the north situation 🤔

There's currently 88 teams that play in the SFA non-league pyramid and 133 in the SJFA.

A swing of 24 clubs from junior to senior gives the seniors a majority. Now there are x factors to consider. Rothie Rovers meaning to apply to the juniors, amateurs, youths who could apply, the NCL being added.

Who believes the SFA non-league pyramid will have more participants in 2020-21 than the SJFA regions?

I know I'm being pedantic so apologies, but on those numbers a swing of 23 does it :)

What is the future for @Burnie_man once the future of the Juniors gets sorted has a certain ring to it. New thread? 😀

Absolutely no chance of BM retiring yet !

There is still the East/ North of Tayside problem. Will they get Tier 6 status, either in the HFL or in the SLL regions. (The plight of Brechin City might stir up the" boundary" issue ?)

The East Juniors (south of the Tay) situation, still needs to be sorted. How many of them will apply to join the EoSL ?

Would some of the West Lothian junior clubs opt to 'go west', if a WoSL is created ?

Then there is the North Region, where 'new pressure' , is allegedly being applied to them to join the pyramid. By whom you may ask ?

There is also the North Caley League, who have (recently) held further (positive) discussions with the SFA about pyramid entry .

And IF/WHEN all the above gets sorted out, there is also a P&B discussion (forum ?) to be had, about the merits of the leading Amateur Leagues,  fitting into the pyramid, below the senior leagues.

Keep posting everybody, and keep BM on his toes.

SCOTTISH FOOTBALL PYRAMID

Following the decision of the Lowland League & East of Scotland League not to support the recommendations of the Pyramid Working Group, for the Scottish Junior FA to Join the Pyramid System, Auchinleck Talbot FC wish to confirm that we will support the SJFA in their efforts to find a solution to this matter.

In the meantime ATFC will continue to work towards achieving Club Licensing in preparation for any possible future changes to the structure of our game, we can assure our fans that they will be kept informed at the earliest opportunity of developments, and that we will consult with them before any decision is made on the future of the club."
