This kind of ambiguity led to the peculiar sight in the Celtic End at Tynecastle a few seasons ago of people stood side by side waving the Flags of the Spanish Republic and the Vatican City

Not personally being a fleg fan it might well seem odd in the 21st Century.

Doubt it was as clear cut in 1936 in Glasgow. The RC church in Glasgow was pretty open in it's support of Franco. While many of its parishioners were ILP voters and some went over to Spain to fight against Franco.

Maybe you should simply steer clear of discussions you don't understand? The constitutional crisis in Spain is a clash between notions of top down indivisible state sovereignty on the Madrid side versus bottom up popular sovereignty on the Barcelona side. The DUP guy talked as if his party naturally belonged on the former side, when the history of Ulster Unionism has actually often very much been about the latter.

That's one less drain on the public purse. Now for the rest of them...

She said she had donated the salary to charities and community groups, including an Irish language group, a group for the elderly, an LGBT group and a charity for children with disabilities.

Probably better use of the money than there will be now it's returning to the "public purse".

Maybe so, maybe not so. A big % would have been going to SF, as their policy is pay only the average wage the rest going into the party coffers, so I'd prefer it to go back into the public purse to be wasted on things other than SF's bank account.

And you are not either? How long would you keep being paid in your job, if you refused to do what you are being paid to do?

Don't know but I'd certainly want to keep it as long as possible.  But that's just me.
