There's maybe more to that throwaway remark than you think Granny.  I listened this morning to a radio interview with a resident of NI who cited three younger members of his extended family who in the last six months have upped sticks and moved to the UK mainland.

I have sympathy with political refugees but I’m not sure that’s the solution.

DUP councillor previously convicted for attempted murder as an IRA man gets punched in the face by a woman known as "Mitch" at a gay pride march.

Belfast Telegraph

More background...

Sunday World

He's not now, nor ever was, a DUP councillor.

He's an unreconstructed IRA man.

The man he was convicted of attempting to murder went on to become a DUP councillor.

I thought it was odd but the BT could have made it clearer..

McGeough became the first republican to be jailed in 2011 for historic terrorist offences since the Good Friday Agreement.

After lengthy proceedings he was convicted of attempting to murder part-time UDR member Sammy Brush while he was working as a postman in 1981.

He later went on to become a DUP councillor.

I prefer the original story to your revision.

Vaguely remember a documenary where an IRA scumbag smirks repeatedly when asked whether he shot Sammy Brush while denying it. Good to hear he eventually got jailed.

They have complained that St Patrick’s Day is starting to turn into St Patrick’s week.

Organizations in Northern Ireland ensures walks and marches are held with a Protestant Orientation in the majority of the towns there. The marching season commences in April and ends in August, while the most important date is the Orangemen’s Day or the Glorious Twelfth (of July),which are followed by a marching band.

Those participating in the marches or walks usually have dark suits worn; alternatively, their jackets may be removed when there is a high degree of heat. Dark bowler caps and white gloves were traditionally worn, despite the fact that these are not in vogue at present times. Collarettes are additionally worn by those who participate. This sort of collarette is manufactured using a long thin bit of clothing material; this piece of cloth is hung around the neck and joined to make a “V” shape in front by the wearer. Numerous collaterals made are produced using orange fabric, in spite of the fact that there might be optional colors. A significant characteristic of the collaterattes is that they depict the number of the lodge the wearer is identified with as well as a range of identity media or emblem that conveys the status or hierarchy of the person from the lodge.

The Union flag, sometimes referred to as the Union Jack among other flags, is usually lifted by numerous lodges, albeit a few lodges carry Ulster, Scottish or Orange Order flags. Numerous lodges also lift at least one banner. The name and number of the lodge are depicted on one side of banner. The opposite side usually shows pictures of William of Orange, deceased lodge members, local landmarks alternatively or thee bible with a crown.

Didn't the Sunday World run a story years ago about a male SF Councillor running off with a female DUP Councillor?
