You have to look at Sinn Fein’s raisin d’etre.  There has never been greater support in the north for a united Ireland.

21% according to a poll in the Independent back in May this year, (Commissioned by the University of Belfast and conducted by Ipsos/MORI)

Reunification is only a matter of time.  Those in the republic should get a vote too obviously.

Should English residents get a vote on Scottish independence?

There's been others I've seen that are a bit more ominous for Unionism than that, but nothing that suggests UI is in any way imminent or likely to trigger a border poll while the DUP are in coalition. Hopefully we are a Westminster election away from some semblance of sanity where relations with the EU are concerned. Economic meltdown across the British Isles should be a more pressing issue than the location of the national capitals for all but complete cranks.

It's an occupied part of Ireland.  Everyone in Ireland is entitled to a say.

A part who in every poll have chosen to stay separate. I don't think everyone in Britain should get a vote on Scottish independence.

Neither party gives a f**k about their electorates, just obsessed with tribal shite. DUP should have campaigned against Brexit, Sinn Fein should have voted in Westminster.
Could this be one of the reasons the Torys are dragging their heels over proxy voting ? Allowing Sinn Fein a proxy vote would screw their £1bn majority.

I’d imagine the Sinn Fein MPs would still have to take the oath of loyalty (or whatever the official term is) before even being allowed a proxy vote so it would be irrelevant.

They still need to turn up and swear in to get a proxy.

And proxy voting would presumably come with conditions eg maternity, bereavement, illness. Otherwise you would have arseholes using it so they can concentrate on their legal practice or attend a conference in Tahiti.

Turn up, cross your fingers when taking the oath, and have the opportunity to f#@k this Government up at every turn. Sinn Fein really are missing a trick here. And they get to sit next to their DUP chums.
