D Angelo Barksdale
We would have undoubtedly gone on to win the trophy if not for this. Another example of the racist anti Hibernian bias at the SPFL.
gannonball
How was often does this keep happening? Like I accept some poor volunteer at a part time club making an arse of it but it seems to happen all the time at the group stages these days by decent sized clubs.

We've not reached Vlad levels in the Ron adventure, but there are similarities for sure. He says daft tnings, he seems out of touch with how Scottish football works, and he employs his seemingly-unqualified and incompetent son. Add that his managerial choices and the player recruitment his regime has overseen so far speaks to a complete absence of long-term strategy and a bent towards wasteful mistakes. The Rocky contract saga and this League Cup issue add a familiar level of general administative shambles too. Basically, he's getting shocking value for money by making terrible decisions.

In a nutshell. He may have deep pockets but seems incredibly naive when it comes to Scottish Football and Football in general. Appointing a management team and binning them within a few months for a couple of million £'s in compensation is a classic example.
Darren
The excellently timed League Cup admin cock-up pretty much did the reasoning for me, but what VG says.
Zing.
Ron Gordon has employed some questionable folk in his time at the club so far. Kensell has f**k all idea what he’s doing on the football side but seems to have free reign. Ian Gordon has absolutely no experience but has found himself employed as the head of recruitment. The latest f**k up appears to be his choice of employing the 21 year old boy from Livingston to run our football admin department.

You could even add the timing of the Ross sacking in the run-up to the cup final then replacing him with a left-field gamble. It's a Diet version of Burley - Rix while top of the league. He displays lunacy tendencies for sure. That's exactly the kind of thing Vlad would have done, and (rightly) been ridiculed for. That kind of timing says a lot about an owner's ego. He's not full-on Vlad, but there are clear parrallels. Edited July 21, 2022 by VincentGuerin

Motherwell lost 2-0 at Airdrie in the group stage last season and ended up finishing 5th. It's not pre-season, it's the actual season. This is a cup that Hibs led 1-0 in the final of last season, and which they have now instead been emptied out of by a League 1 team and a bottom half Championship team. The only people who call this cup pre-season are losers who aren't going to be winning it.

He has a club with an excellent stadium and facilities and a superb training centre and both are the envy of most other clubs. Unfortunately he has employed idiots.
