No goal against the Hum Scun is ever a bad one, but we’ve scored some outrageous goals at Mordor over the years.

Who put the ball in the Rangers net? Tony, Tony Stokes

Seizure specialist, Alen Orman.

Lewis ‘5 goals in 15 years’ Stevenson channelling his inner Messi.

Vicky Slivka making it business as usual as Hibs yet again leave Govan with 3 goals and 3 points.

Meatball McGinn being better than Zidane.

What a wondrous and emotional body of art you have posted my friend.

I was at the Stokes goal of the season game, that pass from Zemmama 👊💧💧

MacPherson's commentary shows him up for the begrudging auld c**t that he is. 😖

I remember the day of Sproule's hat-trick very well as I was on a golf jolly at Gleneagles and when we got back to the Dormie House, Hibs were 2 up. There was a crowd of guys in from a company called Quintiles (sp?), in Bathgate I think. Anyhoo, there were quite a few H*ns of the rabid variety amongst them and when the TV strapline fired up with "Ivan Sproule scores 3 at Ibrox", some glorious banter ensued as our group was a mixture of Hibs and Celtic fans. The fact that it was an up-market venue kept the lid on things a bit but at one point it got quite heated and the maitre'd had to have a quiet word with all concerned. 😀

Here's an Ivan Sproule hat-trick for ye, all good goals in my opinion. I especially like the way he rips Lovenkrands for the third.

3-0 wins at Ibrox, you say?

I think this honestly might be my all time favorite away game.

There was 5k Hibees in that end , it was fucking BOUNCING!!!

Riordan got a rapturous welcome coming on, had he not bumped the **** that week?

Im sure that was GOC's last game an all wasn't it?

I got the subway back to Partick after the 90, was quite the experience.

So this is where we are as things stand - I've done a couple of these based on what I would play to get the best out of our best players (FM/Fantasy football thread for this pish I know)

I think it shows that the glaring points where bodies are needed is at CM and GK. I've a feeling Hallberg will end up as the new Slivka - always decent, at his best fantastic but too rarely stamps his authority on games. Happy for him to be a squad player but could do with more energy and dynamism. Docherty or Omeonga the obvious candidates if finances allow. GK I honestly don't know, but would be happy with a Laidlaw style, happy to be backup keeper. That being said, is Dabrowski at that level now?

After that and the signings already made I'd be very surprised if there's any wiggle room left in the budget.

  • If we're aiming to mainly play 352 then in an ideal world another CF (Boyle can cover as well of course, was just trying to pick guys in one position if possible) and a ball-playing centre half but we could get through the season and compete for top 4 with what we have.
  • If we're mainly playing a 451, or any formation  with a back four, more often than not, I'd say improve both full-back positions. Happy with any listed above if we're playing that system to adapt to another team tactically, or just change things up, but we can't be relying on Stevenson/Gray any more and I'm not sure any of the others are up to it on a consistent basis.

So I'd say 2-4 players coming in would be ideal.

I'd imagine anyone else coming in will be loans which is not a bad thing. Personally I dont like 3-5-2 but at the moment it looks stronger than the 4-4-2..

I think it's a formation which can have terrific results but it's rare for a team in most leagues to use it for a whole season and not be found out/stagnate after a certain point. If we're going to play 2 centre forwards, Scooter and Boyle at the same time - which I think we should - then it's the only one that really fits. I'd also hope that 3 centre halves with a dedicated anchor man in midfield and wing backs would help plug our very squirty dyke

I’d like us to get Docherty loan or permanent. Then someone to challenge Stevenson. We could get by with that I think, as long as we don’t lose Boyle.

I thought Docherty was pretty good for us, but there's some serious limitations with him in my opinion. First, he'll be on higher wages than anyone currently at ER, and I'm unconvinced he's good enough to justify that here. Second, he's really not a great passer of the ball. He's not a great tackler either. He was also invisible in the Derby and at Pittodrie in two big games for the club which concerns me. More positively he does run about like f**k, he reads a game okay, plus it's nice to have a midfielder getting into the box. I just don't think he's enough of an upgrade on either Mallan or Hallberg to justify the money he'd likely be looking for.

I think that's a really good point to be fair. It's a catch 22 as I'd say we definitely need *someone* with his sort of skill set (Allan and mallan v similar, Gogic not likely to be up and down the pitch, Hallberg more a "neat and tidy" sort) but the obvious candidates are him and Omeonga, both of whom would likely be looking for wages it's tricky to justify in this time and in comparison to the rest of the squad.

Could be though that this feeling is more a hangover of post-McGinn syndrome, and that having a proper DM takes away the necessity of having that driving, Box to Box type. All things considered, if a deal work for us financially I'd still take Docherty in a heart beat
