Sorry, wrong wording - he said they were the strongest clauses he had seen.

Its pretty clear that Hibs manufactured the low cost in order to ensure we could place these add on clauses - we knew how good he was so you can be certain the management and board did - the laddie has won promotion with Hibs, Villa, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup, multiple MOTM awards, plus the stuff noted below.

While it might seem a bit of a gamble, we are not skint and this was a way of ensuring a (large, ongoing) income stream for years to come.

The only people who couldnt accept how good he was were the Celtic fans who said he would be a squad player and they shouldnt pay more than £1.5 for him.

Great laddie and we all wish him the best.

Celtic fans are usually happy to tow the party line. It was clear to see to fans of every other club that they were acting the c**t.

Interesting season ahead if your manager is allowed to spend it. Especially if we reap the benefits of Fraser being sold.

Yep, I think its absolutely fair game for clubs to do this.

I am sure we can all remember players being lured to England on big cash and our clubs getting a handful of sweeties.

You are right about Fraser - he has been a standout this season, if he was spanish the media would be even more in a lather about him. As it is, its great business for your lot to get the sell on fee - and, tbh I would hope you did the same with McKenna (take a low bid and a big sell on) as its the only way our clubs are going to get a wee bit of that TV cash.

Look at Andy Robertson too, his transfers are helping a couple of Scottish clubs.

I am still waiting on the big offer for Lewis Stevenson, but fear that - despite that international cap - he may be overlooked

Brilliant season for John McGinn, has taken the English Championship by storm.

An absolute steal at £4m. Absolutely bizarre decision making by Celtic to refuse to pay that, and every football follower in Scotland knew how good he was. He'd go for at least 6 times that right now.

Are there any figures going around on what Hibs get for Villa going up?  Had read Villa fans saying £300k.  Surely any sell on fee would be a good bit higher than that.

Been plenty figures about today. From 300k to £2m. Journo Alan Nixon is the source for the 300k but he seems to use absolute guesswork for most of his stuff.

Seems there’s quite a few Celtc fans in absolute denial about how good John McGinn is (along with Ewan Murray). Quite funny watching them all still refuse to admit he’s actually a very talented player.

Remember that at the time, what an idiot he’s turned into recently. His comments through the Lennon situation were embarrassing as well. He’s getting a bit of stick atm for slating St Mirren players as well.

I think the (desired) salary was a bigger issue for the Celtic board than the transfer fee.

Since Celtic didn't even get a bid accepted until Mcginn had pretty much agreed terms with Villa, I'd say you're incorrect tbh.

If you can easily work out which team a journalist supports, they can be safely ignored. That goes for both English and Murray.

He's not quite as good as Hibs fans thought he was (every team has players that their own fans will overrate) but he was more than good enough to walk in to that Celtic team.

300k isn't going to make much difference but welcome all the same. McGinn on his form yesterday is way better than any Celtic midfielder at present and Lawwell is a clown but we knew that anyway.  Shame also on all those lesser epl managers that didn't bid last summer.  Was obvious McGinn was epl standard and more.

Still better than any players you have signed in the last 25 years.

He’s just won promotion at the first time of asking after running the show all season in the English Championship.

He’s probably better than we thought he was.
