"The ICT Thread - The Championship Years"

Recommended Posts

Welsh has at least proved that, despite his injuries, he is more often available than not. Toshney, and to a lesser extent McHattie, have not. I think we'll see them moved on. I trust Robbo in the transfer market so, assuming he is back in charge for next season, I am confident he can effectively replace them.

Toshney has only played a handful of times and did look like a solid centre-back when he has, but surely we can't be offering him a new deal - the guy's injured constantly.  McHattie is a funny one - another who has spent most of the season injured.  He had a good season last season though where he played mainly at centre-back.  It's funny how he's looked decent in any position that's not his own as he's looked pish at full back.

At the current rate, I'd probably offer Todorov another year but I don't think Sutherland is worth retaining.  Hasn't really set the heather alight and no-matter which role he's played he doesn't look cut out for this level.

To be taken with a large pinch of salt given the source, but according to Transfermrkt, the following are out of contract this summer:

James Keatings (PCA with Raith Rovers agreed)
Sean Welsh
James Vincent
Shane Sutherland
Aaron Doran
Lewis Toshney
Kevin McHattie
Brad Mckay
Miles Storey
David Carson
Nikolay Todorov
Anthony MacDonald
Cammy Mackay

Carson and Welsh are the only ones I’d say for definite are the ones to keep. MacDonald too I suppose as he was okay in his first spell. Maybe keep one of Todorov, Sutherland and Storey as trying to spend the summer replacing all of your strikers just doesn’t seem the a very sensible thing to do.

I think I agree with all of this, apart from Cammy Mackay. Probably not on much and we could have worse backup options.

We’ve stuck by Doran through some pretty rough periods of injury but I’d imagine he’ll still be on a good wage and possibly one of our higher earners.

I think if Robbos back making the decisions for next year, a lot of these players might get 1 year deals again

You think?  Every time I've seen him I can't say he's ever filled me with confidence.  The Wyness Shuffle have a poll on Twitter just now for worst ever goalkeeper and I think I'd rather have all four options than Mackay - even Zibi Malkowski.

I’ve seen him play a few times and remember he was a bit dodgy at cross balls etc. If I’m honest I wouldn’t be devastated if he left but I think there’s worse keepers out there.
I thought the club must’ve seen something in him as we gave Mackay the nod over Hoban (who’s backup at Forfar now) last summer. My only worry is our obsession with signing ex Hearts players continues and we end up with an ex Hearts youth as our backup 😂

He seems quite susceptible with shots from range as well.  Sure he was he beaten against Hearts and Falkirk from miles out.  If he was retained next season and Ridgers picked up a bad injury early on, I'd like to think we'd loan someone in.  I wouldn't want Mackay in goal as the first choice for most of a season.

I think I remember the Falkirk one was direct from a corner? Seemed to have erased most of his performances from my mind if I’m honest.

Wonder what the club are doing about contract extensions, if Robbos coming back as they say then I wouldn’t suspect McCann would have any say in this. Usually around this sort of time is when we try and get players tied up for the next season

The match between us in the next round of the Scottish Cup is to be shown live on Friday 2nd April, on BBC Scotland.

This could be a good warm up for the play off double header in May.

😂 I like how you're assuming we'll finish in the play off places Frank m8.

Was just going to come on the thread to mention him.  I noticed he hasn't been in the squad for a while again.  I assume he's injured again.  Surely we've got to release him in the summer - he's been at the club for over a year now and only played a couple of games in all that time.

On this point I'm lead to believe that Toshney has in fact been paid off by the club (or will be) so I doubt we'll see him in an ICT shirt again.

Interesting.  I actually suspected myself he might've been quietly released.  We can't carry a player who's injured a minimum of 75% of every season at the best of times.
