Dundee United 2017/2018

Recommended Posts

I still love Johnny Russell. He's doing well in the states now. What I think Robertson , Russell and Douglas demonstrate is work rate and attitude plays a big role in development . They have all pushed on from each club they have been with. What we rage at is having seen these guys we get the current crop with their "pop star" attitude who have achieved nothing yet. Frustrating and disappointing.

Can't make my mind up if this is a tongue in cheek comment or you're just thick as shit. You don't think that the lad has maybe managed to improve in the time since he left Utd?

Get my kill at Utd fans, it appears that all players are either "God's" or "shit" , no in between at all. What a fickle bunch.

Was at the game on Friday night and the treatment of some of the players was unreal. Take the young lad Robson for example. The fans had that young lad a bag of nerves, he simply didn't want the ball. That treatment of a 20 year old was disgusting. Don't rate him? Fair enough. But to heckle him everytime he touched the ball was out of order! Whether you're a paying fan or not, to treat one of your own like that shows your class.

You'd also think Andy Robertson is the player he is now because he spent 1 season at Dundee Utd. Strange how Utd fans constantly take the credit for that.Dundee Utd DID NOT make Andy Robertson! The reality is, Andy Robertson is the player he is now because of Andy Robertson, no one else!

Btw, I'm a neutral fan, I have no axe to grind with Utd or their fans. Simply putting down in writing a few observations.

To the hecklers, screamers, and belters out there, remember the player that you're personally abusing is, a human being with real live feelings. They don't go out to play bad. Do you get the same level of abuse if you don't perform well at your work?

Encouragement works!

I was being 100% serious. Barry Douglas was horrendous for Dundee United bar the odd free kick. Being able to defend is quite important for a full back IMO and he was incapable of this. I am sure he has improved. Good for him.

Your tear stained rant generalising about "Utd fans" makes you come across very bitter so is not worthy of being taken seriously. Football fans are people too.

Was that your first time attending a football match on Friday? I don't think it is for you.

I am sure you will be seeing Robson playing quite regularly at Whitton Park in the coming years.

I have read the Coll Donaldson piece and it didn't surprise me one bit having been to Tannadice a good few times over the years.

I felt for the lad, maybe that's just the empathy in me shining through but I'm pretty sure most reasonable fans felt a bit of guilt reading that this lad felt the need to say what he did?

As for Robson, I agree that he possibly comes across as a big time Charlie and that YouTube video certainly paints a picture, but he still decides to pull on the jersey of your club. He may not be very good, but does personal abuse need to come with it?

I get the frustration and anger of what's happened the last 4 or 5 years but Neither of these lads have anything to do with what's happened to the club off the field remember. The anger, rightly or wrongly, spills over to the stands during a game and it simply CAN'T help the players.

I'll repeat I have no axe to grind with with Utd or their fans, I do attend from time to time.

I sincerely hope they get through the play offs.

I like to think of myself as a perfectly reasonable and well informed football fan, and I felt no guilt whatsoever in reading Coll Donaldson’s self pitying drivel....

I responded in kind and in detail earlier in the thread so won’t repeat myself here.

Robson pulls on the jersey because he is contractually obliged to do so, (in the same way I am obliged to turn up for my work every day) in the same way that he would pull on the jersey of another club the second he got a chance for a move. This was demonstrated when there was interest from down south, before his Xmas eve meltdown put paid to that. It is Csaba;s fault we don’t have anyone better.

Things may be a bit more frought in the stands at Tannadice because of the overall position, and the pressure on the club to win promotion. This pressure is felt all through the club, not least in the stands. Simple as that.

We dont shout personal abuse at Robson.

I dont follow him home shouting "Robson, your hairs a fucking mess and you're choice in drink is fucking shite."

We shout professional abuse.

"Robson, stop passing to their fucking forwards!"

Barry Douglas was decent going forward, but pretty poor defensively. Good to see he has improved that and is doing well.

Andy Robertson was very good going forward, decent defensively, and has improved the defensive side of his game.

Johnny Russell would likely be in my all time United 11, or at least on the bench. He was absolutely brilliant for us, and I'd kill for a forward half as good now.

Coll Donaldson was dreadful for us. He got stick from the fans because he swaggered about like he was Beckenbauer despite his performances making my dead granny look like a viable alternative. I'm glad he has gone on to do better, but the rewriting of history to suggest that his poor performances were down to the big bad Shedboys not liking him are ridiculous.

Jamie Robson has "future Montrose player" written all over him.

Only if he sorts his attitude out.

Bold post from Jock there!

Do think United fans could be more patient with players in general. We demand success and performances immediately and in this division we’ve come up against teams that outfight us and frustrate us all the time.

Thankfully Mohsni & Ralston have settled quickly and attitude and effort from Flood, Murdoch, McDonald & Staton in particular are helping drive us on and keeping the dream alive!

Easily my favourite game from that season and Robertson's goal was my pick for our goal of the season too. I've been told the 4-0 at Fir park was an all round better performance, but from what I personally saw, I don't think we played better that season .

The Motherwell game was just unbelievable stuff. It was a better performance versus a good Motherwell team. But still, that Partick game was gorgeous.

Some of the passing in that game is up there with the best you'll ever see in the modern Scottish game. Gauld's chipped through ball for GMS's second and his through ball for Brian Graham is in the realms of football porn.

Watching those highlights just makes me fucking depressed too. The distribution from defence was exceptional those days compared to what we are watching now. We can just about string 2 passes together V part time teams.

Fucking wankers like Jackie (1st) / McKinnon (4th)/ Laszlo (3rd) / Thompson (2nd) have helped see to that. c***s.

I was at both games, the Motherwell game was a level above.  Everything clicked that day and even though Motherwell played well the scoreline didn’t flatter us; it was an incredible performance.

In all my years of going to games I have honestly never booed a player or the team.  However I am frustrated by Robson (because he thinks and acts like he is far better than he is), Flood (because he is past it and is making the same mistakes every week), and Fraser (because he’s a talented player but absolutely gutless - turning his back on the ball and his non-position at all our corners on Friday being just two examples.  His sliding challenge near the end of the game had me rubbing my eyes).

I'm no fan of Robson and anyone who knows me knows just how critical of him I am but I think it's easy to forget he is a young player in a poor team. United's not helped him in the slightest by their failure in addressing the problem at left back, Ray brought in Scobbie who is never a left back and Csaba brought in Mason which has been a complete waste of a signing. Had we brought in a decent option at left back to take Robsons place and take some of the pressure off of him it may have helped. One of the major negatives re Robson is his attitude/personality as he does come across as one of those pop star I'm great type of players where as you look at Robertson who even now is still very humble. At half time on Friday I was saying I hope I never see Robson in a utd strip again and if he is here next season it has to be as back up to a more capable player.

To be fair, the two players are worlds apart (aside from age wise). Dillon is a complete professional. Doesn’t drink and a complete gentleman. Robson is the complete opposite. United could actually do worse than send robson to montrose for a season. He would definitely learn a few things, especially off Dillon.

Anyone who follows this thread knows my love for Sean Dillon. It was a not entirely serious post.
