The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

Brown, a man with absolutely no managerial experience whatsoever, cannot be near the top of the list of potential managers.

Let’s park this ludicrous notion in a bin. Put the bin on an unseaworthy trawler. Tow the trawler far offshore and set it on fire.

Leave some trustworthy observers to ensure the flame engulfed hulk sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

Since when the f**k does winning everything make you eligible to being a manager .

It doesn't always,  but sometimes experience counts.

The flip side is you get managers that have hardly kicked a ball. What Brown is, love him or hate him, is a winner.

Worth a punt.

Released, makes him a free agent, no?

His registration will be held by Aberdeen until the next transfer window unless hes sold to a club with an open transfer window.

He cannot play for another Scottish top flight club until the Summer transfer window opens.

Inclined to agree but there are people with tons of managerial experience who would be even less appealing.

Could you honestly say you'd have someone like Barry Ferguson or Peter Grant ahead of Brown?

I mean it's all one everybody wanting Jack Ross back but what if he's not in the least bit interested?

What if no-one who truly fits the bill is interested and you're left with Jim McIntyre, James McPake, Stephen Glass and Kevin Thomson to pick from?

You going with one of them, or you thinking 'f**k it' and taking the risk on Brown?

To be fair, winner is not what it should come down to. We need someone who is tactically astute and can spot a player in a competitive market and someone who can then entice them to the club as Goodwin did. You could almost argue that Stubbs was a winner, as it happens he is the opposite, but prior to Saints unfortunately getting firsthand experience of it he could have given off the impression of a winner with his past experience.

On another note, we are getting into a bit of a dangerous trend now, fans voiced their concern over Griffiths and rightly so due to his past, it worked. Now people will be latching on to that for anyone they dislike, as is evident in the replies to the Daily Record tweet & for what in this case because he captained one of the Old Firm and is widely hated by some other fans in the league - most really couldn't give a f**k about his connection to another club. The board need to do what they feel is right for the club & if they think Brown is a good option then there is no reason why they shouldn't look into it. Goodwin wasn't exactly well liked across the SPFL and there has hardly been a mention of his conduct as a player since he became manager.

Think you need to calm the f**k down.

The article said we've asked to speak to him but are exploring other options as well.

There nothing there that suggests his appointment is imminent. I also fail to see what it has to do with fan ownership. We weren't fan owned when we appointed Tommy Craig and everyone knew that would be a disaster. Nor were we fan owned when Stubbs, Rae or Mureay came on board.

Seems there's just a few of you out there who want to jump around like gibbons with a handful of their own shite every time something questionable happens screaming 'fan ownership'. Christ, ZingaliMan was just talking last week about how he's only now cancelled his SMISA membership as fan ownership was now achieved and now that he's a week removed from it has already poopooed the process twice in under 24 hours. Neither of which were linked to fan ownership.

Greenie'd.  Would do it more if I could remember the passwords for all my sock puppet accounts...  😉

You probably just try and get some temporary continuity and re-evaluate things in the Summer, surely?

You won't be near relegation regardless, so (presumably) giving Aberdeen some compensation for a player with zero managerial experience and almost no sideline coaching experience to be your new manager on (presumably) a multi-year deal (why else would he bother?) seems a fair old risk to be taking when you could just muddle for a while copying what Goodwins been doing and seeing if any interesting managers apply/show interest over the next few months.

Either that or you chuck your money at trying to get McInnes.

That was always the concerning thing, Jack Ross is literally the only stand out candidate (possibly Lambert)

If we weren’t able to bring JR back to the club then we would most likely get stuck with a McIntyre, Hartley, Adams…

Adams is the only one where I accept he's a pretty good manager and a decent short term appointment but it will inevitably go tits up in his 2nd or 3rd full season. Probably when he falls out with the fans.

I'd be on board with that but that would probably be wholly depending on what league Killie are in come the end of the season.
