The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

A genuine question here, but for those that feel the forfeiture of the matches is too harsh a punishment, what kind of punishment would you expect to receive for disregarding Covid protocols as a club?

What was the punishment of Aberdeen, Celtic or Rangers?

I'd go for something similar to that.

The same type of punishment given to Celtic & Aberdeen for players who managed to disregard Covid rules.

A slap on the wrist.

I would have expected the games to be played and the club to be fined severely.

A punishment proportional to those whose staff members caused games to be postponed regardless of who requested/instructed the postponement.

Days?

I said a while back that unrest at the manager, games being called off due to covid, the Magennis affair, the poor form and players picking up silly red cards were all the hallmarks of a relegation season. When you look back at the seasons we went down, it was never one thing, more a collection of little things combined.

That said, in previous years we were hoping for someone to suddenly turn it on, whereas this season the team Goodwin has at his disposal should be enough to see us clear.

We lost 3-0 to Accies in the November of the Tommy Craig year, too. 😬

The absolute state of our team that day, though.

Marwood 😂

Ball 😬

Reilly 😐

I can't even remember who Brown was. 🤷‍♂️

As you say, our current squad is better by some distance. Only Mallan and McLean would get in our 2020 side:

We'll be fine, as long as we haven't done a Jack Hamilton and dropped the ball with our tax affairs.

You seriously cannot compare the two scenarios here:

The players of Aberdeen, Celtic and Rangers broke covid protocols in their personal lives, away from football.

St Mirren and Killie have admitted to disregarding covid protocols introduced by the SPFL/SFA when responsible for player safety and minimising their exposure to the virus.

Exactly this aye. It's like comparing a restaurant that isn't bothering about social distancing and is letting folk pile in without masks to one that is following the rules perfectly expect one of the waiters is going to underground raves after his shift.

SPFL making it up as they go along but then we already knew that from the entire summer saga.

We've admitted to wrongdoing, probably in the hope that we'd get slapped on the wrist and it's backfired so we will just have to take it. The carsharing point is a bit ridiculous on our part if the club knew it was going on but this is a fucking ludicrous charge.

Quote

St Mirren admitted a number of breaches of the SPFL’s Covid-19 Regulations. These admitted breaches involved the seating arrangements on the coach and at the pre-match meal for an away game. In both cases there was a failure to observe physical distancing by the players and staff.

All we can hope is that the players are now feeling is that the punishment is unduly harsh, following on from being essentially forced to play without a keeper earlier in the season. Get an air of siege mentality going about the club.

Disagree with the punishments/ awards on the basis of setting a precedent which could be expanded on without any recourse of appeal. Does anybody know what tier, if there were any, was in effect at the time of the offences? If it was low and this is the result,  now that central Scotland is high because the risk of infection transmission is higher, how do the authorities decide the severity of breaches of protocol? How many are involved /  who are involved? Was it playing staff or the tea woman? Be good to see if SPFL ,SFA have a sliding scale of punishments ready.
