The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

Recommended Posts

Every time I see Kyle running I am reminded that I have a serious back injury and it will never get better……

Kyle has bags of skill but looks fucked when he runs, very stiff and uncomfortable to the eye…

If he’s off, then best wishes, Thanks for your time at Saints. 👏

McAllister plays like a 35 year old winger who used to be great but is now playing down the leagues because he hasn't got the legs for it anymore.

Surely not. I mean, I like the lad. I've probably got more patience for him than most. But he's not good enough for Aberdeen and he'd be a fairly strange target for St Johnstone.

He's not fit enough for either.

I think we're all agreed on what he has gained in the past few years.

Hope springs eternal with Kyle and he's still young but the detail of his appearances the past couple of seasons speaks volumes:

19 starts (substituted in 17 of them) and 44 appearances from the bench.

On the flip side, and I’m sure a statto out there can confirm or not, that McAllister created more ‘key’ chances than any other player in our squad.

Found this on Twitter…would need to see the numbers though.

It's nice to reminisce about the old days but modern day players are quite literally in a different league now.

Fitter and stronger, yes, but technically inferior.

He certainly ain’t no Chris Burke or Gary Teale.

.. now repeat ..

Got absolutely no axe to grind with McAllister, he's a talented player let down by a body that doesn't really want him to be a footballer. If you could sit him static in the central midfield and allow him to ping passes all over the place he's be in his element.

You feel he'll either get a second wind from some experimental surgery and be a bargain buy turned good, or he'll struggle proudly on until the doctor says to him in his late 20s, keep playing and you'll have problems in later life.

I wish him well if he goes, not so well that he comes back to haunt us of course, but if Saints fans are being honest, his heralded return and our expectation of what sort of player we get the second time round have not matched what we've seen.

If the Davidson or Glass think they can get a tune out of him, then fair play. I wish it wasn't the case but losing him doesn't necessarily weaken our side all that much.

If this is true then I would get him off the wage bill. He just doesn't look fit or capable of getting his game sorted. I would have loved him to fulfill his potential but just don't see it. There will be better bargains to be had as time goes on and I am sure Jim will have targets lined up already.

I think McAllister would be a stand out in the championship, where he would get that bit more time on the ball and his lack of physicality wouldn’t be so exposed.
I remember us beating a non league team in the cup a few years ago - think it was Spartans - and he looked like a world beater. Scored one of the best solo goals I’ve ever seen.
He’s never really done it consistently at top flight level though and he’s never managed to establish himself as first pick despite being nearly 23.
When we asked to sign him on loan from Derby a few years ago and they said no you can have him back permanently, that showed what they thought of his long term prospects.
Remember hearing at the time that it was due to them knowing that he had a long term issue that basically meant he would never be fully fit.
Anyway, I would still like to see him stay as a squad player. He’s shown he can change games from the bench.

Can't believe folk are still doubting St Johnstone in the transfer market - they have a long history of fixing these broken players. You could easily have said all the same stuff about Kiltie at the start of last season and yet you are now all delighted to have signed him a year on.

I know what you mean.

I'm now doubting myself, what's the catch? Maybe he's worth keeping even if its for the last 20 mins or so in a game.
