The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

Recommended Posts

It's the money I'm due for doing match reports for the websites and the programme 🤐

In all seriousness, is it not about time for the accounts to be sent out to shareholders ahead of the (presumably virtual) AGM?

Given that we have raised the issue to the authorities ourselves and are investigating, it looks like it may be either an individual or a supplier. If it's not playing/management staff then the sums involved should be relatively minor. It also says we do this annually, so hopefully it won't be a long-standing issue.

Imagine it won't be exactly the same situation but we were fined £10k and deducted 5 points in 2014 following a self-declaration of non-payment of tax. That was admittedly from 2010/11 so the length of time may have been considered when handing out punishments.

Mibbes coincidental, mibbes no but the club's annual financial report is normally sent out to shareholders towards the end of November, I enquired about it being overdue yesterday and was told the club was unsure when it would be made available - ties in with us (our auditors) noticing something wrong & telling the polis.

I'm away to start the "Big St Mirren Admin thread" for when you're inevitably fined for a decades worth of missing tax payments, and given a 20 point deduction.

Doesn't look like a shambles to me since the Club reported it and it doesn't involve the football side of things. Looks minor and not deliberate but let's paint them in a bad light anyway.

The club itself in the statement describe the events as “historic”.    I’m assuming they mean historical, but if you take them at their word this no small matter.

Wasn't that players / management though. This specifically isn't.

Fitzpatrick using club money to bet on St Mirren by league champions by the end of 19/20 IMO.

Clearly he hoped to hide it with his winnings.

Exactly! The press love to embellish these things. Fingers crossed this turns out to be nothing.

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that following the annual audit process where several historic issues were highlighted, both SMISA and Kibble representatives tabled a report with a recommended course of action. Subsequently these recommendations were approved at the November Board meeting and the Board of Directors initiated contact with relevant authorities.

These actions will facilitate that going forward all aspects of the club’s business practices are strong, compliant and transparent to all, whilst ensuring they meet the highest level possible to ensure the club’s reputation is utterly beyond reproach. The club has moved swiftly to appoint a highly reputable firm of accountants to carry out a thorough forensic review of its operations to allow for any required action to be acted upon. St Mirren football Club will co-operate fully in all aspects of the process and with all relevant authorities.

Tony Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive said: "The Club has taken these steps to ensure that we continue to operate on a sound and compliant financial basis. I would also like to put on record our appreciation of the invaluable work, continued commitment and support of our club accountant in this matter. Fans can be confident that all actions taken are in the best interest of St Mirren to ensure it continues to be a club of which our supporters can be proud."

We can reassure supporters that the club continues to operate strongly in the current pandemic climate and our club remains in a healthy and robust financial position.
