The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

Recommended Posts

Will be hugely disappointed if allegations of our club breaking protocol regulations over C19.  If true we take our punishment but heads should roll at the club. While I dont want to know what goes on in the board room in general.  On this subject I certainly do if we are found guilty of breaking the rules. It will be intresting to see what feedback SMISA  gives to its members for me that will make or break SMISA  for me.

Why would SMISA be providing the feedback on a situation like this ? If the club face charges all feedback should be direct from the club and not fed back to a select few via SMISA. And I say that as a SMISA member.

If we've broken the rules and get done for it then we just have to accept it. There isn't much detail on some of the specifics but car sharing is daft if prohibited.

I'd not like any club to forfeit games, I'd prefer them played out and clubs to be punished some other way but if that is the punishment chosen then so be it.

If this is as serious as it sounds and they hammer us likely with forfeits or points deductions, it is likely to be the end of our season too as I don't see this team going on a run. Handing 3 points and 3 goals to Hamilton and Motherwell is brutal. I mean we are capable of doing that on the pitch but at least if it was teams you were more likely to get thumped from it wouldn't be so bad!

Just cancel it, follow up on your threat for once. All of these SMiSA rants are nonsensical. Why they get the blame from you for everything I will never know.

Have the SPFL decided that taking points off of clubs as a punishment? Surely any punishment (if guilty) , will be in line with what other clubs have faced,  ie fines.

Like Rangers, who played a game without test results being available, like Aberdeen, whose players had a night out or Celtic, whose player went on a trip and didn’t bother telling anyone.

If we have broken the rules, then we deserve to be punished BUT if they “throw the book at us” they better have the balls to do the same to the bigger clubs.

Kicking us in the stones simply because we are a small club isn’t acceptable.

It depends on the level of the breaches though - if this story is true and St Mirren have essentially ignored every single aspect of the recommended protocols, then they deserve a stronger punishment than other clubs who have had a single slip-up somewhere.

Does anyone know what the rules are regarding players socialising etc?

I seem to remember Obika saying on the radio a while ago that he was having to avoid going to a restaurant or for a coffee but that was the sacrifice he was willing to make.

If Instagram is anything to go by I've seen at least one of our first-team players posting pics from a visit to a pub in recent weeks. If that isn't against the rules then fair enough, but I did find it surprising in the circumstances.

1/ If proven guilty by the SPFL  2/ As a paying fan for fan ownership I would like to know what the board knew if anything. That might mean nothing to others  which is fine I respect t that. Me I want to know given we have two SMISA members on the board ( representing fans ,members of SMISA ) Given the severity of this situation and the punishment that could be given out. Of course not wanting a here and now answers.  Take the punishment after that their should be scrutiny. What's the point of fan ownership in times of crisis if the fans buying the club dont know what has went on to get us into this situation. I'm sure if the club is in crisis with financiers  a e-mail will be in my inbox to help out. At this moment in time Scott can tell SMISA to f**k off. Just my opinion as a SMISA member.

All that should and no doubt will be conveyed to the support via the club not via a Supporters Association. I really cant see why you would expect information like that to come from SMISA given their responsibility is to their members, this affects every supporter and is frankly nothing to to with SMISA even allowing for their representation on the board.

Those were one offs. Am I right in thinking your club have already been warned/investigated and this is now another, new charge?

It's actually difficult to tell. The league has been very slow with its investigations; the Killie one came (what seemed like) ages after their missed game. I'm not aware that we have previously been investigated, so I would imagine we had an investigation coming as a result of the Well call-off, and now it's been ramped up because of the Accies game.

tl;dr - I think this is the first actual investigation, but it's a biggie.

I really dont see how the spfl can punish teams suffering from an invisible virus.. You can have all the “bubbles” you want but you can still catch it anywhere.

So they will try and bring in rules to punish top league sides that have players with virus, but they cant punish teams in lower leagues as they dont test twice a week..

Every game today in the championship, could have 10 players on each side with virus and they would not know

Agreed but this lad McGowan has said the SPFL are going to throw the book at us for breach of protocols such as 'team coaches' and 'team meals'.

Neither of these things, as far as I'm aware, breach any protocols so it will be interesting to know what exactly he is insulating that we've done wrong in that regard. His wording of his article is shoddy and appears to be deliberately provocative.

Morton today, put a tweet up thanking a local cafe for providing the team a takeaway breakfast to eat on the coach trip to Dundee this morning. So given there's evidently nothing wrong with either of those things, I'm genuinely interested what exactly we have done in terms of team meals and coaches that is so wrong as to have the book thrown at us. I mean, surely there is not really much room for interpretation there unless the players are fucking licking each others plates. 😂

Maybe he means Alan McManus and Jamie Langfield.

Or maybe, seeing as it's the Daily Mail, it's the usual load of shite that's not worth reading.

Appoliges I dont mean SMISA members are better than any other supporter . For me if something is seriously wrong then SMISA have two board members feed back so far has been zero not just on this subject . Magennis statement ?  We have 1,200 supporters putting in £12 a month have they to be looked over ?  First things first we might be innocent, done nothing wrong SPFL   should protecting clubs it's an organisation that seems wants to f**k clubs. I'm no fan of hearts but they were given a bad hand but that's another story. If you think fans paying £12 a month for years with two members from that organisation on the board should give no information to its members in a time of crisis then I dont agree. Then again we might be innocent but that info should still be out to fans. I'm Gordon Scott I'm going to make a statement every quarter to the fans. Aye right Gordon.

Exactly what information is it you want right now?

The club have already admitted positive tests on several occasions, the last two have reduced the squad to numbers which have required postponements. All of this we know.

Now, as Kilmarnock are currently being investigated it is only a matter of time (probably Monday) before Saints are also under investigation at which point it would be totally inappropriate for the club to comment further until the result of the investigation is made public.

Rule breaches or not the reason we couldn't fulfill those fixtures was the small squad we are operating with. Had we say 25+ signed players we would probably have been able to field a team albeit a weakened one (although not now the squad has been isolated but I asume this is a step taken to tryto bring this outbreakto an end given the window created by no game next weekend). We will not be operating on this basis through choice it will be financial constraints that are dictating it. This scenario will never lead to a postponement for either of the cheeks, Aberdeen, Hibs etc so I really can't see how a points deduction can be applied as it was far from a level playing field from the outset.

Have you read what I have wrote ? Obviously not as I have wrote we need to wait what the club statement is . If , IF  there is any punishment from wrong doings.  If we have broken the rules and proved guilty only then I expect feed back from SMISA.

It's a pandemic I'm sure if Killie and Saints take this to a court of law we will both be proved innocent.  At that point is the football authorities looking after their members  ?  I dont thinks so they are on a different planet.  It's not a guess we are not out the first month of winter things are going to get bad for all clubs.  If this goes tits up I'm finished watching Scottish football.  Plenty other things to do on a Saturday.
