Jackson has signed the club are waiting on international clearance.

Excellent!  I genuinely look forward to seeing how he does for you.  He's probalby not going to get back into the Canada side due to the emergence of a new generation of strikers but he's still a good player

In a way I'd love it if the January thing was HIS choice.

Would mean he's clearly hoping he does so well that he'll walk in to a much better paying gig then.

Rumours on BAWA saying that Lewis McGugan is back for another week's trial starting tomorrow and Adam Hammill is coming in for a week as well.

Impressed by the calibre of trialist we've been looking at actually. Ferdinand, Jackson, Cotterill, McGugan and Hammill are all guys in late 20s or early 30s who have proven quality. Yeah, each of them come with a caveat of some kind but that's the market we will always find ourselves in going into October.

McGugan and Hammill both on short term deals with an option of extension much like Jackson, is a far more palatable option than what we currently have at our disposal.

The concern though is that our squad is fucking massive and the wage bill not sustainable.... there's between 8-12 bits of dead wood who need casting off ASAP .

They're precisely the sort of player I was expecting us to be looking at in the summer. There have been some fairly massive failings at the club in the past six months, right enough.

On the plus side, whether Ferdinand turns out to be a revelation, a bit past it, or anywhere in between, he's a big name and will help to lure in other players. Call it the Thommo effect.

OK has confirmed that McGugan is with us for another week, so that one isn't a rumour.

The fact that he is sticking around suggests he has shown up reasonably well during the trial period, so that's encouraging.

As you say, we do seem to be looking at players of a decent pedigree, and that gives some hope.
