The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

We might not be going for 'marquee signings' but I tell you what, we should be getting a bid in to get Lawrence Shankland back.
Shankland with us was a fat, out of shape, jaded shell. He was also this with Morton.
Since dropping a level, he's clearly grown up a bit and realised how he could quite easily be on the scrapheap if he allowed himself to be.
Get a bid in for the lad, he has a year left with Ayr. Even if it's cash plus Ross Stewart he's a player worth taking back on.

Agreed. Scored another hat trick tonight. Would definitely do a job & he definitely won’t be any worse than the players Stubbs has already signed.

This is going to cost us a lot of money, isn't it?

It's not just Stubbs, it's Rice and Jackson as well that would need paid off. Going to be expensive, if it comes to that.

Every St Mirren fan needs to delete their twitter account. Some amount of complete shite being spouted on there & calls for Fitzpatrick to make a statement. It’s not even out of pre-season, Stubbs needs time. Saints fans are brutal.

We've been clueless v Spartans. Horsed by Sunderland whilst playing some of the worst trialists around. We then go and play virtually a back 5 and look anonymous v L2 Queens Park. The signings look terrible and we have nothing up top. We have 8 members of the title winning squad looking like strangers. The attitude in the team is terrible. The league starts in just over a week.

He will get time but he's taken a title winning squad and ruined it. He better fix it quick.

Based on your comments, you'll be glad to know that Nabi is back on trial at Dundee.

Bit of a weird one that. McCann definitely seems keen, keeps raving about him ever since the first trial.

A 3 year deal as well, the McGinn money will end up going towards it emoji38.png

I would hope we have a relegation clause?

By the sounds of things, he's well on course to fulfil it.

Just had a listen to Stubbs interview width and strikers are a priority no doubt that's why he tried Smith out wide but now knows he is better in the middle. Major problem is getting quality forwards in which takes money which we don't have so loan deals. Word is one will hopefully be in before Saturday fingers crossed. It all started so well at Killie the desire was there just hope desire returns for Saturday as Dumbarton are a team who have gave us problems. If we beat Dumbarton we win the group unbelievable given our results.

Have you forgotten Killie top the group and are now playing well?

Well no. Killie still need to play Queens Park, for us to win the group we would need them to drop points.

It is true that a draw is enough for us to secure 2nd, even if Dumbarton get the bonus point as we'd be above them in goal difference. Only the top team is guaranteed and there is a chance we could get one of the runners up, but that relies on us beating Dumbarton.

To be fair, you are not wrong in your incredulity regarding our points haul in comparison to our performances - it's the only silver lining from the current situation. Ultimately we are in a no worse position than if we had lost to Killie and won both the Spartans and Queens Park games in regulation time.

I'd love to know what Stubbs is telling the players as last night continued a pattern of players who clearly can play a bit, are incapable of linking up with each other with a sprinkling of basic errors all over the field. Now with errors I can understand that, it's more or less our pre-season, but the lack of link up play and a coherent plan on the pitch is the most worrying. It really shouldn't take a rocket from a manager to be able to do that, it should come naturally to any footballer, whether they are professional or just a randomly thrown together 5 a side team.

If Killie win they win the group.  we'd just be humiliated in the next round anyway we don't deserve to go through plain and simple we need to worry about what's coming league wise

I've got to say, I'd much prefer us to squeak through than not, irrespective of who we play in the next round and what the resultant score is. I don't disagree that our main concern needs to be the league, but as we need the cup games as preseason I would like us to have as many games in it as possible.

A draw against Dumbarton might not even be enough should we win the group.....

Ross County, who currently sit below you for the best 4 runners up places, have 2 games still to play, Arbroath tonight & Alloa on Sat. The same applies to Brechin, thou Dunfermline tonight & Dundee on Sat is a tall ask......
