D Angelo Barksdale
Looking forward to Fat Cops releasing 'The Ballad of Ruth Davidson'. A soulful lament to the greatest First Minister we never had.

All this "Family stuff" is just her way of getting out of this without pissing on her chips at the Tory party. That suggests she wants to either retain her seat or have a go down south when Boris et al have fucked off.
Ira Gaines
Correct. She's stepping down as leader but remaining an MSP.
HTG
Obviously they've no chance of winning Shetland but their candidate must be raging that her coupon and name is all over the brand he's campaigning under. If it's family reasons, another 24 hours wouldn't have hurt and she could have fucked off for the weekend.
George Parr
Lost interest in anything she had to contribute around the time she speculated about Russian invasion in the event of a Yes vote. Just as contemptible as the rest of them.

Will be interesting to see if she keeps her place on top of the Lothian list, a new pro-Boris leader might just bump her off the top and then her political career is dangling by a thread in a marginal constituency.
The-coo-shed
In a political sense, it's a good play by Ruth Davidson. It's shows she doesn't align with the current Tory rhetoric. If indy 2 comes up, she can do a Gordon Brown and come back into the centre of politics with her reputation still intact in Scotland. The Scottish Tories will take a battering over the next year, but Ruth will not be shown to be leading it.

Rather than splitting the Pro-Indy vote they appear to have picked up most of their vote from well meaning recycling, academic disproportionately English former Lib Dem’s in neighbourhoods like Marchmont. The rise in the Tory vote seems to have been people that didn’t vote in 2011. Many would put this down to having a candidate with national profile but an alternative theory is that people with money in the New Town started giving a toss about holyrood the moment it had tax raising powers It always had tax raising powers Fair point, I should have said something along the lines of ... the moment the use of those powers seemed likely The common stereotype on here of Scottish Tory Voters as Schemie, Uneducated, Union Jack waving, Rangers supporting arseholes with a funny orange tinge may well ring true in some parts of the country but here their core support is better characterised as nasty, rich people who went to St Andrews. Bring Your Own Socks
Ever since she was smuggled into Holyrood with her own little coup when Malcolm Macaskill was bumped down the Tory list In Glasgow she's had people switching green lights on ever since. So whatever she does it'll be for the benefit of Ruth Davidson. Her predictable "missed the wee man" story will insult all the hard-working parents around the country. It's what she does next that'll be interesting. As Leader of the Scottish Conservatives she could of course have a word with the Scottish Tory MPs. If they all resigned that would be enough by-elections to take the smugness off Arlene Foster's fugly coupon. But that would be the Flash Gordon version. As always, and as with most Tories, she'll content herself with looking after her own career. Like Anna Soubry, she'll find herself off the front pages very quickly.
