SPFL has moved Premiership games Motherwell-Rangers to Sun 6th and Partick-Celtic to Fri 11th August for TV.

What happens if Partick & Rangers, Partick & Motherwell and/or Motherwell & Celtic draw each other in LC R2? Can't play on appointed midweek as neither club in each tie would have 2 clear days. Daft.

Well there's a spare European midweek on the 17th that Sevco won't be using any more.

That's correct... they could now play a tie involving Rangers a week late. (In theory it could also go a week early - but that'd only be 3 days after the groups finish which is unrealistic).

However unless Celtic lose to Linfield they will definitely have European ties on the midweeks either side; then unless they got eliminated from both CL and EL before the groups they would have groupstage ties after that leaving no opportunity to catch-up... Only way around it would be to cancel weekend league game(s) - or to make one of them play 2 in 3 days?

Looks like a November final could be in difficulty after this edition.

According to the Bert Kassies site UEFA has confirmed how dates will work under the tweaked CL & EL set-up starting next season.

Basically the rounds are moving back a bit - Scottish clubs will now start on July 10th-12th and July 24th-26th a fortnight later than currently - and the free midweek in August (where the Last 16 of the League Cup is currently played) is being removed. This will leave the only free midweeks in the autumn as September 29th (when the QFs are currently played) and October 31st (adjacent to weekend when SFs are played). They're actually a week later than now, similarly the international breaks: which could mean the Final being on the first Sunday in December, as opposed to last in November?

Suppose they might concoct ways around it - e.g. playing Last 16 on a weekend? Celtic enter at QFs?

... and so it proves as it's affixed for Saturday 18th August.

So clubs will actually play just 2 league games; League Cup last 16 (unless eliminated in groups); 2 league games; international break.

Or don't enter at all. Guarantee at least one trophy going to a different team.

I was simply observing the 2 possible solutions, obviously I wouldn't have agreed with it !

Btw in a worst-case scenario of a Premiership team exiting in groups, and being due to play LC Semi-Finalists and Finalists, they'll have 6 blank weekends in first 16 weeks of league season.

Given that European games affect a tiny minority of clubs it really is ridiculous how much European fixtures cause difficulties for each countries fa's
