If it wasn't for retaining the perception of power this could have been explained by mere numbers earlier, they don't want to look political whilst Rishi will make every decision with politics at the forefront of those decisions.

Per head of population.   I don't think it's a bad tweet. It's a valid question those in charge of England are going to have to answer. England will be the second worst hit country in the world by this. They knew it was coming, they had time to prepare. So why?

That's not what he says in the bit of the tweet posted here, but if that actually is the case, it's a fair enough point, I suppose.

And as for not preparing - f*** knows, it's a question that will have to be asked. (And probably ignored/skated round/lost in a fog of obfuscation.)

It appears to have different impacts depending on race. England is a very diverse place, especially London where the main outbreak is.

The death rate in England is probably higher because of population density. London is higher than the rest of the country. London has a mass transport system which sees significant numbers of people jammed together under ground. Logic tells you that they'll have a higher rates per head of population.

And age overwhelmingly. The average age in England is 39, in Scotland it's 46. Yet our death rate is less than half theirs. And theirs is being underreported by up to 80%. They don't count deaths in care homes or at home, in Scotland we do.

As for population density, 85% of Scotland's population lives in the central belt which is one of the most densely populated areas in Europe.

Scotland has.more smokers than England and more heart disease and probably obesity diabetes respiratory conditions, in general we're a bit more unhealthy.

Yet England is seeing.2.5 times as many deaths, whilst underreporting these numbers enormously.

Could it be the fact that, going into this crisis, Scotland has 420 hospital beds per 100 thousand people, and England only 260?  Or the fact that Scotland has.more doctors and nurses and isn't run by incompetent sociopaths who preferred herd immunity until they learned the public wouldn't be delighted with a quarter of a million deaths?

No one knows but we will eventually be able to compare different NHS trusts and see if the England figures are just skewed by London and Birmingham.

You mean like Glasgow and Edinburgh which make up a larger percentage of Scotland's population than London and Birmingham do England's?

I suppose it is a fair point though, its not like Glasgow has a subway system. Or Edinburgh any mass transit systems. Its not like they're in the country that invented the car and the road it drives on or anything. We're mostly horse and cart like.
